The Infantry is the main land combat force of the
Army. As such Infantrymen capture or destroy opposing
ground forces, repel enemy attacks and operate weapons
and equipment in order to engage and eliminate the
enemy. During peacetime, the Infantry must remain
ready come to the defense of our country. The Indirect
Fire Infantryman specifically supervises or is a
member of a mortar squad, section or platoon. The
indirect fire infantryman serves as a supervisor
or as a member of a mortar squad, section, or platoon.
Employs crew and individual weapons in offensive,
defensive and retrograde ground combat tactical
operations.
Requirements:

A minimum score of 90 in aptitude area CO.
-
A physical demands rating of very heavy (must
be able to occasionally lift over 100 pounds
with frequent or constant lifting in excess
of 50 pounds)

Color discrimination of red/green.
-
Correctable vision of 20/20 in one eye; 20/100
in other eye.
-
Formal training (completion of MOS I lC course
conducted under the auspices of the USA InfantrySchool)
mandatory.
Duties:
-
Employs crew and individual weapons in offensive,
defensive and retrograde ground combat
-
Performs hand-to-hand combat drills that involve
martial-arts tactics
-
Employs, firing and recovering anti-personnel
and anti-tank mines
-
Locates and neutralizes mines
-
Carries out scouting missions to spot enemy
troop movements and gun locations
-
Operates two-way radios and signal equipment
to relay battle orders
-
Constructs camouflage to hide mortar firing
positions
-
Operates, cleans and stores automatic weapons
-
Parachuts from troop transport airplanes with
weapons and supplies
-
Infantrymen must perform strenuous physical
activities, such as marching while carrying
equipment, digging foxholes and climbing over
obstacles.

Being in top physical condition is a plus.

Good hearing and vision are important
Training:
-
13 weeks, three days of One Station Unit Training
(OSUT) which includes Basic Training and Advanced
Individual Training.

Part of this time is spent in a classroom
and part in the field under simulated combat.
You'll keep your Infantry Soldier skills
sharp and fresh through frequent squad maneuvers,
target practice and war games. Job training
for Infantryman requires The training will take
place primarily in the field, with some classroom
training. Subjects include Landmine warfare,
antiarmor techniques, M203 grenade launcher,
machine guns, military operations on urban terrain
and squad tactical training.
