Field Artillery
Automated Tactical Data Systems Specialist

A Field Artillery Automated Tactical
Data Systems Specialist is responsible
for operating field artillery tactical
data systems on a Multiple Launch Rocket
System (MLRS) Team. MLRS teams are used
to support infantry and tank units while
supplementing cannon artillery in combat.
They also launch various missiles and
ammunitions in quick strikes during combat.
The field artillery tactical data systems
(FATDS) specialist leads, supervises,
or serves as a member of an activity operating
field artillery tactical data systems
in a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS)
battalion, battery, platoon in a field
artillery cannon battalion or higher.
Requirements:

A minimum score of 100 in aptitude
area FA
-
A physical demands rating of moderately
heavy (lift on an occasional basis
a maximum of 80 pounds with frequent
or constant lifting of 40 pounds)

Color discrimination of red/green
-
A Security Clearance of SECRET
Duties:
-
Establish, maintain and operate communications
systems
-
Assist in the preparation of computer
centers for operation
-
Prepare field artillery tactical
data systems for operation
-
Determine target location using computers
or manual calculations
Training:
-
Nine weeks of Basic Training
-
Seven weeks, one day of Advanced
Individual Training (part of this
time is spent in a classroom and part
in the field under simulated combat).
