Annual leave
- Leave used for vacation, respite from work, or to attend
to personal or family matters. "Ordinary" leave
is the same as annual leave.Advance Leave Leave not yet accrued
but granted to resolve a family emergency situation or urgent
personal matter, requiring the member's presence
Appellate Leave
- Unit commander can direct or member may request appellate
leave following sentence by a court-martial to dismissal or
punitive discharge.
Convalescent
Leave - A period of authorized absence for members to
recuperate following medical care or treatment.
Emergency Leave
- . Leave (accrued, advance, and excess) granted for a family
emergency or urgent personal matter, requiring the member's
presence.
Environmental
and Morale Leave (EML) - Authorized at an overseas installation
where adverse environmental conditions require special arrangements
for leave in desirable places at periodic intervals.
En Route Leave
- This is annual leave members use in connection with PCS,
including to their first PCS upon completion of technical
training.
Excess Leave
-Excess - leave is granted for personal emergencies over and
above the amount the member can earn before discharge, separation,
or retirement.Excess leave is a no-pay status (not entitled
to pay, allowances, or leave accrual).
Pass (Liberty)
- A regular pass or special pass is an authorized absence,
not chargeable as leave, for short periods to provide respite
from the working environment or for other specific reasons.
Permissive
Temporary Duty (PTDY) - PTDY is an authorized administrative
absence, not chargeable as leave, to participate in official
or semi-official programs for which funded temporary duty
(TDY) is not appropriate.
Reenlistment
Leave - At least 30 days and up to 90 days leave incident
to reenlistment may be authorized to Service members provided
that any advance leave involved does not exceed 30 days.
Terminal Leave
- Accrued leave taken immediately before separation or retirement.
The last day of leave coincides with the last day of active
duty.
