Take Advantage of a Powerful College Fund

April 15, 2007

As a Soldier in the Army Reserve, you'll have the time and freedom to put your educational benefits to good use. If you want to go to college, the Army Reserve will help pay for it. If you've already attended college, the Army Reserve will help pay off your loans. The following programs are available to all qualified applicants for 2007.

  • Selected Reserve Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB)
  • Army Reserve MGIB "Kicker"
  • Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Scholarships
  • College Loan Repayment Program
  • Tuition Assistance
  • Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAP)

SELECTED RESERVE MONTGOMERY GI BILL (MGIB)

As a Soldier in the Army Reserve, you can take advantage of the Montgomery GI Bill as a way to pay for a college education. Depending on how long you enlist, you can get up to $10,692 to help pay for college.

How's the money?

Up to $297 per month for 36 months for full-time students.

ARMY RESERVE MGIB “KICKER”

You can add up to $350 per month to your MGIB for up to 36 months with the "Kicker." Kicker amounts vary with job and rank and certain rules apply for eligibility. For instance, you must be a CAT I-IIIA (50 or higher on ASVAB).

How's the money?

Up to $12,600 on top of your MGIB for college.

RESERVE OFFICER’S TRAINING CORPS (ROTC) SCHOLARSHIPS

Take advantage of the best leadership course in America—Army ROTC Military Science and Leadership. Army ROTC Cadets gain practical experience in management and problem solving while training to become Army Officers.

How's the money?

Up to $17,000 per year for college.

Whether you’re a college-bound high school student or already attending a college or university, Army ROTC has scholarships available. Scholarships are awarded based on a student’s merit and grades, not financial need.

Army ROTC scholarships are valuable in many ways:

Two-, three-, and four-year scholarship options based on the time remaining to complete your degree.

Full-tuition Scholarships.

Additional allowances pay for books and fees.

Living Expenses

Army ROTC scholarships also provide monthly living allowances for each school year. You can earn certain amounts depending on your level in the Army ROTC curriculum:

1st year - $300 per month

2nd year - $350 per month

3rd year - $450 per month

4th year - $500 per month

This allowance is also available to all non-scholarship Cadets enrolled in the Army ROTC Advanced Course (3rd and 4th year).

COLLEGE LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM

Paying off your student loans can be made easier with the Army's College Loan Repayment Program. To take advantage of this program you must enlist in the Army Reserve for six years.

How's the money?

Up to $20,000 for selected specialties to repay college loans.

TUITION ASSISTANCE

If you'd like to take college courses while you're in the Army Reserve, we'll help you pay for them. Available for approved courses, tuition assistance covers 100% of course costs up to $250 per credit hour.

How's the money?

Up to $4,500 per academic year.

CONCURRENT ADMISSIONS PRIGRAM (ConAP)

The Army Reserve wants you to take advantage of your educational benefits. In the Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAP), we partner with over 1,800 colleges and universities to make it easy for you to get into college and start earning credit.
