$20,000 bonus for recruits who report to basic training before Sept. 30
Aug 06, 2007
The U.S. Army's Recruiting Command announced recently a $20,000 "quick-ship" bonus for aspiring recruits. The bonus applies to new recruits with no prior military service who enlist for at least two years active duty in America's Army. They must agree to report to basic training within 30 days of enlistment. The program ends Sept. 30.
The quick-ship bonus contributes to the Army's strength and efforts to grow the active force by over 34,000 Soldiers.
"America's Army is strong," said Lt. Gen. Michael D. Rochelle, the Army's Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1. "To attract interested young men and women we know that we must have cutting-edge enlistment and retention options to acquire and retain America's best Soldiers. We will meet our commitments worldwide and provide the best led, best trained and best equipped Soldiers to combatant commanders. We urge your continued support."
The $20,000 quick-ship bonus can be combined with the Army's other cash enlistment bonuses, up to a maximum combination of $40,000 if an enlistee signs up for at least four years.
Prospective recruits can learn more about the Army's opportunities by visiting a recruiter or filling out an online application.

hey, yea i've been tryin to join, but my last scores on the ASVAB were pretty low.. But, I did quit my job, and studied, and I took my practice at the recruiters and passed, so this coming Tuesday, I'm taking the real one again, And Passing this time, the only problem, I have A GED and that requires a 51 or higher to get ACTIVE duty for the Army, and I can't get that High.. so I'm goin Army Reserve, and going "MP" instead of Infantry, then after AIT I can switch to Active, wich sux, cause I want to go infantry and active duty.. but I guess reserves will have to do for now, it's been my dream to serve this country.. and I'm 17..but Finally I get to go in.. lol.. This Country is Amazing!!.. God Bless America and Everyone who live's in it!!..

Should be here in a couple of weeks! I'm looking foward to advancing my skills in the Army. Also the training that the Army gives is going to be a great challenge and benefit for me and all that join. I also just yesterday graduated college. I hope that very soon I will be joining the many that help serve our great country.

Marines are tuff but why not another branch of the military? MAKE sure that whatever you decide, it is on paper and hold onto all......... It is a contract .

Kenny Staley, if you want to join the Marine then join the Marines because you want a differance in this world. You would be a Marine first and husband or boyfriend second. So many young men get caught up with women and it complicates things for service members and or those who decide to get out because of a girl. If she supports your decision to become a Marine, then you should expect a woman that will be there for you whether or not you come home or maimed. It is a sacrafice that has its rewards but also has it down falls. Don't join the Marines because you want to take care of this girl. Join the Marine because you want to do what is right for yourself and for your fellow Marines, if you decide to join.

I went through the spouses section but it didn't mention much about new recruits and how that goes. Any info would be great. I wish that I could join in such short notice to get the 2o G's too but I can't up and leave that fast. I'd definitely like to get back into shape before going all out right into BTC... God bless all of our soldiers and god speed.. You are our heroes and soon I hope to be my own hero.. and serve this beautiful country with my misses at my side, if she's still down..

Hello. For all of you who are thinking about joining, and think you are too old, you only live once. You might as well make the best of YOUR OWN LIFE. Listen, I thought and thought about joining, I am 27 now and am joining the Army Guard. I finished college and am tired of working the JOB. I hate waking up and going to the JOB 5 days a week. I take the ASVAB Tomorrow in KC and will blow it away. I have a mortgage (rental that hasnt rented yet) paying rent in Lawrence, a car payment and a lil credit card expenses. I have a good job, no kids and no wife..thank god. If you are thinking about joining and are not being PRODUCTIVE NOW, then what kind of life are you living for yourself??? What stories will you tell new friends?? Your kids if you dont have any now or later on in their lives?? We are a country of greatness, and debt. We all have different hangups about the military, but what does it take for freedom in this great country of ours?? It takes courage, dedication, and great men and women of the United States military to keep us safe. I am not a radical right wing. I graduated from a private college and work full-time making good money. I used to be a mortgage broker before the whole credit crunch happened. I am intelligent and am joining the Army Guard. Grow a pair and do it.

Willie P Coletrain, saying something coldhearted and stupid like, "im leaving soon and cant wait to kill the first Iraqi and whoever else gets in the way of USA", is NOT what this man's Army is all about and never was. Doesn't matter if those of us served in Nam, Korea, WWII, Desert Storm or just peacetime, none of us who enlisted did so with the specific purpose in mind of killing people. We did it to defend our country and our constitution. It is a soldier's intended job to keep the peace, not go out and create mayhem and carnage. There is nothing glamorius about war or taking the life of another, even if the life you take is that of our enemy and it was either you or him.
When you enter basic training and hopefully advance to your AIT unit provided you have what it takes to make it that far, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND YOUR EYES AND YOUR EARS OPEN. Many of the instructors you will have are the best of the best and have been in the shit. They willl tell you that the purpose of the training you will receive is not to avenge, but to defend. If it is your intent to be a hotdog, then go perform in a wild west show because in the Army, there is no room for hotdogs, only soldiers who are TEAM PLAYERS!
Duty, Honor, Country! Learn the meaning of the code because you will be expected to live up to it.

The army is a cool choice. I myself am joining the Marines, because I made sure that I wasn't joining just for the big bonuses. You always hear people say do what makes you happy, not necessarily what makes the most money. You have to think of long term stuff, and thoses big bonuses will just make you happy in the short-run. Do what you really want and you will be happy you did what you liked the most, whether it had a big bonus or not. I know that I will happier in the marines, so I don't mind getting a little less for the enlistment bonus. I am hoping to become a marines officer and lead the way!

I was home for only 6 months before i was put on alert status again. This is some bullshit. The army ruins your life and your relationships. DONT EVER trust a recruiter. He will never see a person, all he sees is dollar signs..... I hope everyone of you who wants to join for that college money realizes that ITS NOT WORTH IT!!! Take out a loan and go to college. It helps you to start building your credit and your future job will have college loan repayment options. THINK ABOUT ALL OF YOUR options before making any desicion. I am the only son in my family not to still be in the army. I got out because my wife said it was changing me. I wasn't fun loving anymore. One of my brothers is a Captain and the other is a recruiter. They were both happy, joking fun young men when they first joined. Now they are hard to get along with. Think they are better than everybody. And are very hard on their kids. The army changes you not always for the better. The drill sergeants break you down mentally to build you back up as a soldier. And to anyone looking to get that $20k. Well you get about $8k or less after you finish Basic and A.I.T. and then 2 years later you get the other$8k. So don't expect $20k in your bank next week. I only got $1800 when I joined. Recruiters don't lie to get people to join. They are not on commission. They don't even have to recruit. People come to them and want to join. They go into great detail of the pros of joining but not the con's. They don't mention to the 17 year old cheerleader (and her parents) that is doing split training that in basic training she will have to go into a room filled with tear gas and remove her gas mask. People vomiting and snot everywhere. Or live tracer rounds get fired over their heads while they crawl through a field. (I don't know if they still do that) If you are a bad ass who wants to be a even worse bad ass join. If you are a wimp who wants to grow a pair join. But if people laugh at your jokes and you love being around kids and having a good time and love ALL your weekends and don't want to go to Iraq and watch your friends die and watch the converted Iraq soldiers wipe their butts with their hands and burn up radios and laptops because you didn't know you had to have a 2 piece power inverter then don't join.
To SPC Screwed, and all that listened to this guy. I've been in the military for 16 years, and never thought twice about getting out. I've been to Iraq 3 times, Afghanistan 1 time, Korea 2 times, and Haiti once. Yeah it's a lot of time away from home, but the money is awesome, the benifits, great, and if you have family, your home is paid for. In addition, I will retire at the age of 45, draw 50% of my current pay for retirement, and hold a bachelors degree that I did not pay a cent for. Hell, I made money going to school, for they bought the books back from me that I got for free. So listen to SPC Screwed if you want to, but a Soldier with that crappy attitude is better off out of the service anyway. If anyone of you is serious about the military, feel free to e-mail.
