By scientific standards, I am obese. For being 20% overweight or more, that is the prerequisite. However, I will still see to it that I am recruited and join the U.S. Army. It's dedication. In this new age of pacifism, long far removed from ancient Chinese philosophers and the such, and with the ongoing war, many are too scared to even think of stepping up to the plate. I try to talk all of my friends into the military, as I feel it could be the best thing that ever happens to a person. I know I'll struggle at BCT, as I'm not a great physical specimen, but at least I'm willing to try. More than I can say for many, many others in this country. We need a revolution... Bring back Uncle Sam and have him put on his ass kicking boots boys. We need to kick this country's ass and remind it of the price our fallen soldiers before now have paid so that we can enjoy ourselves!

I'm glad to see the Army being selective. Our country's safety depends on them. Too many people these days think that if they can't make it in life, then they'll just join the Army. NOT ANY MORE! This is a high tech Army, with discipline and respect, and you have to have those qualities to get in.

I can certainly understand the Army being selective. My son encountered recruitment problems and I think it was handled in a very unprofessional manner with the Army. Unfortunately, my son had a criminal past when he was a juvenile that is haunting him to this day and a run-in with the law since he has become 18yrs. of age. His recruiter, as well as his recruiter's superiors assured him he would be admitted into the Army. He took his ASVAP testing and received good scores. He was very excited and wanted to serve. To make a long story short, he was built up with high hopes from his recruiter and his recruiter's superiors, only to be shot down at the final hour and told he could not join. It was gut-wrenching for us both. I never received return calls from his recruiter after a period of time. Guess my son was not good enough for him to make his bonus money for his enlisting quota, so why bother. As a mom, I'm extremely disappointed in the way my son's situation was handled. You should never take a persons emotions and toss them around as though they are meaningless and that is exactly what happened to my son. Everyone with a mild criminal past is not a hardened criminal. My son made some bad decisions in his young life and is being penalized for wanting to serve his country. How quiet it is kept that back in the day, if a young man was considered any type of a "tirant" he was automatically thrown into the military. I know for a fact that some of those men turned out to be wonderful soliders. And some of the best, brightest and most disciplined young men and women in the military turn out to be some of the main culprits that tarnish our military.....i.e., Ms. England and others who abused the Iranian prisoners. So really, what do you want U.S. Army? I'm very disappointed int he way you treated my son.

i have a question. i am a 25 year old female with a wonderful job making over 50k per year. it has always been my life long dream to join the military.. even if the reserves. if i were to join the reserves, would i lose my job? could they fire me? also.
