The Iraq war has made it tougher to sign up young men and women for the all-volunteer U.S. military, but a group of new recruits said they were drawn by a sense of duty, a chance for adventure, career training and college tuition benefits.
Recruiting has been back up this year after a shortfall in 2005 for the first time in a decade. New programs, bonuses and benefits have made the Military an appealing option. Keeping benefits and pay competitive with civilian life and even better in many cases will help keep our numbers up and avoid the possibility of a draft.
