President Bush's decision to send the National Guard to the Mexican border drew an angry response from migrants who said troops would not deter them, while Mexico's government said Monday it would respect the U.S. action as "a sovereign decision."
After Bush announced the plan to send 6,000 Soldiers to the U.S.-Mexico border late Monday, would-be migrants at a shelter in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez said the presence of troops would not stop them from sneaking across the Rio Grande.
"I have no work in my country so if the Soldiers turn me back, I will try again," said Raul Garduno, a 28-year old Salvadoran.
On Sunday, President Vicente Fox telephoned Bush to express concern about what he called plans to "militarize" the border. But on Monday, Fox's spokesman, Ruben Aguilar, said Mexico had no choice but to respect the action.
"It is a sovereign decision," he said. "We can't interfere."
In a further sign that Mexico would not take a strong stance against the U.S. announcement, the Foreign Relations Department released a statement saying that Bush's message showed a "recognition of the importance of immigrants to the social, political and economic life (of the United States) and reinforced the vision that the migration phenomenon needs an integral reform."
I don't think troops will stop them either, and Bush said as much in his speech. The point is to help control the borders and make them safe. Not only for the U.S., but for immigrants trying to cross into the U.S. Changes need to be made to address the problem. The reforms Bush suggested made sense to me. They give everyone a path to become legal so they can enjoy the benefits of being a U.S. citizen. It sounded like a win/win proposition to me.

If the Mexican's believe that they should be able to come over to the Our Side (United States), then I say that we let them try. I do not mean give them a free pass, but let them try and get over with American Service Men standing at ready with rifle barrels pointed at them. I believe that they(Mexicans) would change their mind about coming into the country(United States) illegally when they are fired upon by the Army. I don't mean shoot on sight, but give them a warning and then a warning shot. And THEN if they are stupid enough to keep coming, that the Armed Forces placed in that area should be allowed to fire. They are illegial aliens. That is the end of the story.
i think if the mexicans want to come over so bad they would try every thing in the power to do it legial and not illegial that is my opinen in this matter if they want to keep trying to come over the border then they should be pick up by are armed forces if they dont learn then they should be shot. not dead but alive so they will leran.
I agree with most people. If the mexicans want to come over and work and establish a home they should do everything they can to do it LEGALLY not illegal and pushing the law the act on it and the Mexican that already in the U.S crying about why the other in Mexico or South America can't come and using excuses that U.S was once a migrant country. All I have to say is if you going to do it, do it right and legally. U.S soldier should have the right to shoot them if they came over illegal but give them warning shot and if they are still hard head there is mercy.
I can't understand why Mexican's keep saying they don't have jobs in Mexico when all the company's from the US are taking there's over there. And illegal immigrants are coming here to get free health care and having legal babies here. Give them FREE birth control. Why don't the men sign up in the Military and fight for the country they want to live in.
I believe all benefits should be stopped, including citizenship for newborns. We have laws in this country that should be adhered to, if you or I broke the laws we would be made to pay. My original family came thru Ellis Island legally and struggled for a place in this country. Why, do we give away these privileges free to people who have not earned them. They have a country, let them fight for their rights there.
