Baghdad: Saddam Hussain refused to attend the fifth session of his trial on Wednesday, throwing what has been at time, a chaotic court proceedings into further confusion.

Is there any hope for justice in a system where the defendant can decide they "won't" attend their trial?

Him not showing only shows that he is one trying to manipulate his own trial possibly? Or it shows that he know he is guilty and they should continue the trial without him anyways so that it is not tied up for years to come. Or throw him in the middle of a literal lions pit and be done with it.
