Japanese, U.S. Soldiers Partner in Defense Email This Story Print This Story

Oregon National Guard Soldiers recently trained with Japanese troops in Honshu, Japan. The exercise demonstrates Japan and America%u2019s commitment to a strong alliance, said Lt. Col. Edward Tanguy, a battalion commander. Lt. Col. Shizuo Sekine, a Japanese Ground Self Defense Force battalion commander, said the training demonstrates unity. Tanguy added: "The people back home should know that their Guard Soldiers are representing Oregon and the U.S. very well. They can be proud of them."
It's amazing that Japan was a few decades ago our enemy and now our allies. I wonder if in 50 years Iraq or North Korea will be considered an ally.
