Court-martial begins over refusal of Iraq duty
Anti-war activists consider 1st Lt. Ehren Watada a hero for his refusal to go to Iraq.

The Army accuses him of betraying his fellow soldiers.

At a court-martial that began Monday at Fort Lewis, south of Seattle, the 28-year-old faces four years in prison if convicted on one count of missing movement and two counts of conduct unbecoming an officer for refusing to ship out with his unit, the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.
Who has ever heard of a war a soldier could pick and choose what they would participate in? What do you think?

i just finished reading about some of our heroes. Staff Sgt. David S. Anderson, Staff Sgt. Jason P. Trumpower, and Spc. Edward Reyes. They know the meaning of being a soldier, they are willing to fight and die for their brothers out there. Then we have Watada, who runs when it gets rough. he needs to be court-martialed. it's far better to get rid of him, than have a weak link like that with our brave troops. He is a traitor to his country and his fellow soldiers.

He should have never been commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army! He took and oath and now he going back on his word. Prison is too good for this traitor. If it was a hundred years ago he would be facing a firing squad right now. It just goes to show you what kind of weak, shallow minded, self centered little brats we are raising.

I wonder what kind of person would hire this guy knowing he wimped out on his country? I know wouldn't hire him to cut my grass after that!

Good luck with your future bonehead! I hope they send you to prison.

I cannot believe that he abandoned his troops because he was a wimp. Four years in jail and a dishonorable discharge? I don't think it's enough. How dare he become an officer and then refuse to do his duty! I'm with Uncle Sam. NO BODY is going to want to hire this guy. What if he refuses to do his job in the civilian world? That will be on every employers mind. My daughter is leaving for the Marines in May. She wants to go to Iraq to support all her friends that are already there. We are a Marine family and support ALL the services. I am embarrased that this man is an American let alone a member of our armed forces.

That is no soldier. that is a coward, a traitor, and an idiot with no measure of the sacrifices his forefathers have made. He should be court martialed shipped to Korea for refusing to do his patriotic duty.

Is this individual not a natural born citizen? Did he not join the U.S. Military to obtain citizenship? What about that? If he serves his 4 years and gets dishonorably discharged, does he get to stay in this country afterwards? I think there is much more to this story for this natural born coward. Fours years is not enough at Levenworth, the military side please!

I just read the article on this coward and it states that he is from Hawaii. It includes several pictures. The one that most interested me is the undated one in uniform. correct me if I am wrong, could he not have resigned his commission with the Army and forfeited all benefits? When it was evident that we were going to Iraq, why did he not address that then instead of waiting at the most opportune moment to demoralize his troops. It says he is an "Activist", did he use this moment to promote his agenda at the cost of men and women that trusted him? There is no excuse for this and no forgiveness. There was another gentleman in the Army that did this and I have never heard what happened to him. He was an individual that did join the US Army to gain US citizenship. What happened to him? Put these two together, they can complain together as all cowards do.

I think there are a lot of watandas like that in the US forces. They are there to spy on fellow American officers and soldiers. Stern military dicsipline should follow. If he is not a natural born citizen, he should be deported after serving his terms.

So much evil is being perpetrated by Islam, Islam does not understand dialogue, only violence!

I wish I am an American soldier, I will BE GLAD TO FIGHT AGAINST the enemies of AMERICA.

America, not Europe is the only hope of the world!

The Nazis said they were only following orders, too. Watada is not balking at serving his country - only in serving in an illegal and immoral war. And for Medical Ranger 1, no wonder the world thinks Americans are idiots - Hawaiians *are* American citizens. Also, the Army requested his resignation, which he submitted, and which they subsequently denied. Get all the facts before you jump on the propaganda wagon. Bush's administration has lied to you from day one - I don't know why you take the military's word at face value. And just to clarify - this is not a bash at the troops - this is a bash at the idiots who blindly follow whatever the government says without using the brains God gave you.

God bless America. If there's been no america, Hitler's war would have destroyed the whole of Europe, and guess what would have happened to muslims (moderate or extreme)? etermination by force. America has mellowed down the evil forces of so Islamic Jihad. Wherever ther's islam, there's viloence. A few illiterates are trying to rule the world by an archaic stone age philosophy.

I will never serve a God who need men to destroy others. He is not a God then, but ashatani (devil). Not all muslims are going in one direction.

remember the catholic church also did walk in path of violence in the past with the crusades, and even killing other christians who refused to bow to marian doctrines! The Roman Church has not been able to wash itself clean of inocent blood.

Catholicism is just a fraction of christianity, the offence of catholicism should not be visited on other christians. In the same note the offence of some devilish islamist should not be visited on the whole of good & peace loving muslims.
Individuals who commits any offence against the country should be punished according to laid down rule of law; be he/she a christian or a muslim.
