A great deal of time and money was spent on the development of this new uniform and the Army Program Executive Office Soldier did extensive testing with Soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan and at home in the United States.
Considering all the testing the uniform went through, it is surprising such a mediocre product finally emerged.
When the ACU was first introduced, I was a big fan. Having lived and worked in the uniform for over a year in various field environments - including combat in Iraq - it is clear the goal has not yet been achieved. With a few changes, the Army can complete the process and ensure today's Soldiers have a top-quality uniform ready to take them into combat.

I think the ACU uniform is good for a garrason uniform, But for out in the field or combat they should be fire resistant and a stain ristant material. When I was a Crew Chief for the OH58D Kiowa deployed in Iraq, My work uniform was the flight suit or ABDU, They were both very comfertable to work in, fire resitant and the the dirt and oil was never a problem to get out even when we had to hand wash them. I think uniform like the fight suit and the ABDUs would be beneficial for the ground guys and gals out on patrols. Well maybe not the flight suit, It was hard for a female the use the bathroom with all the battle raddle on. Any way I hope they do come up with an improved unifom for deployments.
I support our troops. It takes a special person to be in any branch of service. It seems here stateside that many people say things like oh my gosh the Army. Or whatever. Not now. Not with the war going on.....You know what I think? The armed services is for just that. In case anything happens right. That way America is Armed. Hello!! And if you go into the service for any other reason than that, I mean if you expect to have the respect but don't want to fight , Just in case, then you don't belong there anyways.
We appreciate ALL the support!!! ACU's are a decent uniform. I don't particularly care for all the velcro, and do believe the name tapes should be sewn on (like the cammies I wore in the Marines) but other then that, good to go.
If the acu needed a change it would be less velcro and stronger rip proof material. respectfully, marine reborne airborne
after spending 4 years in the army and wearing the BDU, DCU, and now the ACU I can honestly say get rid of all the ACU's, go back to sew on and buttons, go back to the BDU style (not pattern) uniform, and use the multi-cam pattern.
