Starbucks Donates Coffee to Deployed Troops Email This Story Print This Story

Coffee has always been an integral part of military life, and the recent coffee craze in America just whet the appetite of soldiers, sailors airmen and Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. Starbucks Coffee Company employees have responded by donating thousands of pounds of coffee and other items over the past several years.

“We kept getting cards and e-mails from troops deployed overseas saying how much they missed our coffee,” said Julie Shelton, a consumer relations partner at Starbucks Coffee Company in Seattle. “It was great we were able to get support from the military.”

To find out more information on organizations that are helping to support the troops go to www.AmericaSupportsYou.mil. America Supports You is an organization that connects the general public with a means to provide support for the military community.

Not true. This has been debunked by several reputable urban legends websites years ago. About 30 seconds of searching would reveal such.

The larger point - being completely missed is that certain individuals are using outright lies and disinformation campaigns in an effort to bully others into giving them something for free. What is with the sense of self-entitlement involved to demand a company give you something on the basis of wearing a uniform?

I gave six years of my life to the United States Marine Corps, including service in Saudia Arabia and Kuwait during the Gulf War. When did "serving" in the military turn into "being served" in the military???

Starbucks does not owe me coffee for having worn a uniform on active duty for six years.

When I was in the Corps, we did our job and didn't expect anything other than what was promised in our contracts. We certainly didn't demand freebies and special treatment by coffee shops - under threat of circulating fabrications, lies and disinformation.

Enough is enough. It is time for Sgt Wright (who started circulating this particular lie) and Mike (comment above) to grow up and be big boys and big girls. Starbucks does not owe them a damned thing for voluntarily wearing a military uniform.

BTW, my comment was directed at Mike's disinformation comment, not the actual blog posting.

Just an FYI.

It's really nuts how rumors spread. People apparently have a hard time understanding the difference between supporting a war and supporting our troops. You don' t have to support issues of any war... but support for the troops is a different matter all together and though it's not demanded, I am sure its most appreciated. Every person that signs that contract to join the Armed Forces knows that theres always going to be that chance that they may get sent into a war situation...some get sent and some don't. I fully support them all, regardless of the branch. So anyways... sorry got off topic here...God Bless you all and please come home soon.

Starbucks screwed up - it's obvious they don't "value" the contributions of soldiers. What a crock.
Starbucks doesn't "owe" anything - but they could have sent the kids a few pounds of coffee and a note saying "good luck"
- instead they hide behind some trite corporate policy - black eye to Starbuck's and good they deserves it -for poor corporate leadership.

Duke, you sound like a Marxist, not a patriot. How about you go buy all the coffee you want and donate it instead of whining about how much a corporation that you don't own did or didn't donate?
