Three senior House Democrats proposed an income tax surcharge Tuesday to finance the approximately $150 billion annual cost of operations in Iraq, saying it is unfair to pass the cost of the war onto future generations. The plan, unveiled by Reps. David Obey, D-Wis., John Murtha, D-Pa., and Jim McGovern, D-Mass., would require low- and middle-income taxpayers to add 2% to their tax bill. Wealthier people would add a 12 to 15% surcharge, Obey said.
"Read my lips, NO NEW TAXES." Why don't we stop giving money to some of the special interest groups and instead pay for our countries defense. How about the billions we spend in foreign aid? Why give money to people who don't even like us?

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates asked Congress yesterday to approve an additional $42.3 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, bringing the Bush administration's 2008 war funding request to nearly $190 billion -- the largest single-year total for the wars so far.

2004 -- $17.8 billion
2005 -- $18.6 billion

Operation & Maintenance Costs:
FY 2004 - $37.2 billion
FY 2005 -- $46.5 billion
FY 2006 -- $59.6 billion
FY 2007 -- $77 billion
Man... Even if the Dems did "bleed the wealthy Republicans" for all their worth, where's the rest of this money coming from? Oh... that's right, Bush is driving this country into the worst deficit in history - it's going to take approximately 4 generations to dig ourselves out of this hole.
