Army Increasing Enlistment Bonuses Email This Story Print This Story

Top amount for three-year recruit is $25,000; for two years, $15,000. The Army has boosted the maximum bonus ceiling for three-year enlistments to $25,000 for all recruits, and raised the two-year enlistment bonus from $6,000 to $15,000 for more than 45 Army jobs, officials announced Thursday.

Statistically it is proven that the more you offer the better quality worker you get. Do you think we should offer large bonuses or a higher base salary for enlistment?

I would have to say a higher base pay is more likely to attract those who would stay longer, and be more focused on the long term goals. People who see a military career as a long term solution, not just a quick money fix with responsibilities attached to it. A bigger bonus may get you a flash in the pan worker who only stays long enough to collect his fat bonus, finish his requirements, then move on. Unless, of course, their RE-enlistment bonus is also huge...hmm. Tough call.
