While anti-war protesters chained themselves outside a Marine Corps recruiting center here, a spokesman said Corps does not plan to abandon the office even though the City Council has officially rolled up the welcome mat. The Berkeley City Council voted Tuesday to tell the Marines that if its recruiters choose to stay in their rented downtown space “they do so as uninvited and unwelcome guests.” Gunnery Sgt. Pauline Franklin said Friday that while the Corps respects city officials’ right to free speech, the Marines would not be leaving.
People should realize that protesting a recruiters office doesn't really deter people from joining. You might even say that it encourages some people to join. Since the protesters are helping the recruiters do their jobs, I say good job to the protesters. By the way since your city doesn't want to allow a federal government office to remain open there, we are pulling out every single penny of federal dollars your city receives. Do you think that pulling funding from the city is the correct action to take?

the city should get ALL federal government programs, or NONE. Their choice. Such as food stamps, federal housing, schooling, and recruiting.

People don't want recruiters, because think about it. How many parents are going to tell their kids "please go invade, occupy, rape, torture, and murder." Unless they are ignorant, like most army parents and members. Everytime I see a recruiter or an army person, I tell him that he is not killing for America, he is killing for large corporate hawks and special interest groups. That he is a pawn in a chess game played by an elite few who cackle about democracy without having any idea what it is. And if he wants to do America a favor, he should just kill himself.

It is a class system. I realize you are probably just somehigh school kid that doesn't understand but We did go to Iraq for the right reasons and we did find WMDs.
