Berkeley Rethinks Marine Snub Email This Story Print This Story

That many folks in Berkeley oppose the war in Iraq should come as no surprise. But in this city famously located on the far left, even some war opponents say the City Council went too far last month when it labeled military recruiters stationed here as "intruders" and pronounced them a "violent influence" on the city's youth. Now under the glare of unwanted national attention, the city tonight is considering a possible retreat as it girds for hordes of out-of-town protesters and news media.

The beauty of the whole thing is that once these idiots realized that they are going to lose federal money then the marines are OK. The same rhetoric that has been espoused by the anti-military since the beginning of the war is being used again, "we are not against the troops just the war." For most in the military it is the same thing. How can you support the troops if you don't support the mission. Good luck to the Marines in Berkeley, those people are crazy. Should the U.S. Government withhold federal funding to Berkeley as punishment for this fiasco, or should the Marines retreat from the field?

I was outraged by the way that Berkeley snubbed the marines. The sad fact is that all military branches fight for their right to express themselves and their right to seek a higher education. It just seems a waste for them to act so ignorant
