Better Bonuses Eyed for Best Performers Email This Story Print This Story

The Pentagon should overhaul its pay system to attract and reward the best performers and broaden bonuses for those in critical skills, a far-reaching review of military pay released Wednesday concludes. The changes would help address the need to recruit the “best and the brightest” despite wartime demands on the force, a shrinking pool of military-eligible recruits and competition from the private sector.

Just like life in the civilian world. Do a good job get rewarded, do a bad job...good luck finding your next job. Should the Army reward the soldiers who do the best or should there be equal pay all around/

My son joined the Army on the 20K bonus -- at least he thought -- he was jerked around by his recuriting officer delayed many times until he was just far enough enlisted that he couldn't turn back but not far enough in to qualify for the bonus - when the bonus time expired, magically all his paperwork went through. He graduated basic training with nothing -- next to several who received in upwards of 60K in bonuses and took every step they took. However, the recruiting officers numbers for the next month started off very good!

If he pentagon did this the army would hurt as a whole. big bonuses is a huge recruiting item for the army. Some people join on this alone. I don't think it is a good idea intially because the bug money might be a bad investment. It the soldier is a bad one,seems like a wastte of money.
