GI Bill Costs Are Worth It Email This Story Print This Story

Two veterans groups — the nation’s largest and one of the newest — are urging lawmakers to weigh the cost of improved veterans’ benefits against the cost of America’s current wars. “The GI Bill is a cost of war as much as any other expenditure,” said Paul Rieckhoff, executive director of Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans, founded in 2004. “Any member of Congress who votes for a $170 billion war bill and then votes against the GI Bill is nickel-and-diming our troops. Veterans of all generations will be outraged by that decision.”

In this day and age everyone knows that a college degree is a stepping stone to a successful career in the civilian world. Many of our troops put his step on hold while they serve their country, expecting their country to reciprocate after their service is over. Unfortunately many politicians will gladly vote for a $3 billion dollar war fund and turn around the next day and vote against the futures of the men and women they voted to put in harms way. Are the costs of a new GI Bill worth it?

Politicians should top trying to screw the veterans out of there rightful benefits. At least the veterans fought for it. Unlike politicians who just lie for it, and vote their own raises. Pathetic.
