Women get go-ahead for military support roles Email This Story Print This Story

The Government has decided that women will be allowed to serve in support roles in the army's infantry, armoured and artillery units but they will not be sent to fight face-to-face with an enemy.
More women will be heading into combat, though not in direct roles that bring theim into contact with the enemy. Instead they will play support roles, but will still be on or near the front lines. Which means they will see combat, regardless of the rules.
