Two U.S. soldiers who disappeared from military installations on the U.S. mainland are hiding in Puerto Rico but should be left alone, their mothers told reporters Wednesday. The women asked police here to stop searching for their sons, saying that desertion from the U.S. military may be a federal crime but enforcement should not be up to local officials.
"My poor wittle son has run away from the Army and doesn't wanna go back, so please don't look for him Mister Policeman." What a crock! Local police enforce federal laws all the time. These mothers may not think desertion is a big deal but in a time of war it is. These boys (can't call them men) betrayed the trust and oath that they took upon entering the military. Nobody promised them it would be an easy life. Should the military go get them and press full charges?

Another fine example of Military Recruiting by someone enlisting unqualified recruits with previous mental conditions. Also, an inexperienced chain of command who can't disqualify the Soldier from serving with a mental condition. Kudos for their mothers for getting involved and showing their sons that there is one person who cares for their own flesh and blood, even if it violates some federal laws.
Sounds like a lot of lawsuits. Mamas are building cases in case their kids get caught. Or, if their not, they should be. The Army's got it's case, if they want their kids let go, they need lawyers who are ready to counter-sue.
Then again, I'm not overly happy with deserters. I've met a lot of people in the army who are depressed. They get up in the morning, go to PT, work, and back to their houses or barracks at night. They drink a lot, but same with civilians. Part of being a soldier is a strong dose of 'stoicism' which is not a philosophy requiring happiness, it's one that requires duty.
Put them in jail. This is a problem that is becoming an epedemic now. Young kids wanting all the perks without doing the work. parents crying and hiding these so called adults who claim to to geown but WILL NOT take RESPONSIBILITY for there actions or HONOR there commitments. If not jail place there named on a list that will not allow them to receive any kind of federal aid job welfare or even the smalliest subsity from ant state or federal agency. They are criminals. I bet the didn't give back there bonuses. Stop allowing people to run and hide and the let them go PUNISH Them to the fulliest extent of the law. I did 2 deployments one in AFGHAN and one in KUWAIT? IRAQ HONOR COMMITMENT where have they gone?
I have two sons serving in the military and it turns my stomach to even think that a mother could allow her son to be a coward and stand behind him. I raised MEN not cowards and they willingly signed up knowing that they will be going to war. They believe in our country, our freedom and everything our flag stands for. If your sons don't want to be an American, they shouldn't be allowed to have our freedom that other MEN (women included) are fighting for. Treat them as felons in our country and put them behind bars for a very long time. Mothers, are you proud of your sons now??????? I am of mine for doing their duty no matter how they feel personally!!!!! God Bless our Troops - the colors of our flags do not run and neither should our troops!!!!!!
there is fine print on the contract they sign. use it and counter-sue. ad for the rest, i am a deserter, did 2 tours, lost my wife on the second and everything i own in a divorce. yup shit like happens people and sometimes you just have to leave to get it done.
