Alone among the military services, the Army fell short of its 2005 recruiting goals - not just the active-duty Army but also the Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.

The Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps, which have far smaller recruiting needs than the Army, all met their targets, according to end-of-year figures released by the Pentagon on Tuesday evening.
No real surprise here, but I'm sure the Army will kick it into high gear to try and make up for shortfall in recruits. They've already begun new programs and are awaiting approval for even more measures to help ensure they meet their goals this year. They have to pick up 80,000 more troops plus the 6,627 they missed last year.
