President Barack Obama was spending time with families of 9/11 victims and the 17 sailors killed in the bombing of the Cole after a senior Pentagon judge dropped charges against an al-Qaida suspect in the Cole attack being held at Guantanamo Bay. The legal move Thursday by Susan J. Crawford, the top legal authority for military trials at Guantanamo, upholds Obama’s Jan. 22 executive order to halt terrorist court proceedings at the Navy base in Cuba. The charges against suspected al-Qaida bomber Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri marked the last active Guantanamo war crimes case. Groups representing victims’ families were angered by Obama’s order, charging they had waited too long already to see the alleged attackers brought to court.
Can you believe that we have dropped charges against some one that is ultimately responsible for the deaths of 17 sailors? What is this president thinking? Isn't 8 years long enough to wait for justice? The rights of one of the fathers of a U.S.S. Cole sailor have been violated in the name of political correctness, and we are trying to guarantee U.S. citizen rights to the terrorist that committed this atrocious act. The fact that our president, the Commander in Chief of the armed forces, and the holder of the highest position of authority in the free world, encouraged this should be met with anger over the disrespect being shown to the memories of the fallen sailors and the families that were left behind. What would you tell Obama if you had the chance to speak with him?
