The Pentagon began requiring the vaccine in 1997, sparking a long legal fight with service members who consider it experimental and potentially unsafe. The Pentagon contends the vaccine is both safe and effective against the airborne form of anthrax, and that the threat to U.S. troops from anthrax as a biological weapon is so dire that the vaccination program is necessary.
I haven't seen even one case of air born Anthrax in the news. You would think if the situation was "dire" then it would be something we should hear about more often. I don't know why we need to force this vaccine on our soldiers. We don't have a cure for bullets or bombs, both of which I would call "dire" situations in Iraq.
