I am rather curious as to what you all think is the best sniper rifle, based on accuracy and ballistics

I'm no expert but I like the look of the British used L96.

Calibre: 7.62mm
Weight: 6.5kg
Length: (adjustable) 1124-1194mm
Muzzle velocity: 838m/s
Feed: 10-round box
Effective range: 900m, harassing fire 1100m

Depends grately from the coditions and the target.

sako trg series for allaround situations

or perhaps Tikka Tactical

Barret "Light fifty" or m82 has superb stopping power also against targets inside
vehicle.. but the size makes it hard to use in operations which need
rapid deployment and perhaps movement between different shooting positions.
I think i'd go with the more modern Barret m95.

The x101 is the prototype of the M82 barrret. It is wickedly powerful. The ballistics are pretty good, you can blow someone's head off from 1800 meters, and the army likes to use 'em to stop light vehicles. One shot can do some serious damage to your engine. Firing the M82 was downright dangerous until someone installed an extremely effective muzzle brake, which reduced the recoil to something comparable to a 12 guage. Still not very stealthy, though

yeah ive heard of that
the SAS use them now because not only can you completely destroy a raghead with it but also you can blow choppers, light tanks and vehicles

say youve got some delta/SAS on the inside of the valley (silhouette) and theres a raghead coming through the road on the botom of the valley, instead of uing a law just 1 shot to the leading vahicle and tailing charlie will make the vehicles inmeneuvrable so you can snd your fireteams in to go and bayonet them:D

The Accuracy International L96 is the best sniper rifle in the world and thats the view of the top dogs in the world of olympic and military shooting.

is that right?I heard that the L96 was designed by an ex-olympic shooting champ but keep seeing people say that shooting sports and military sniping are a million miles apart.

whats your view on this?

RM, do you have to use the term "raghead." It's a bit racist you know. DSR-1 is the best.

Well i have, intentionaly, never shot at a human being before so i guess thats the gap between the two, shooting at targets and game is one thing shooting at a person shooting back at you is a different story. The L96 was designed by a British ex-olymic champ who also had served in the military so he knew both sides of the coin, but i dont think its a million miles.

Im glad you said that i was begining to think you were mad.

i dont think the L96 is the best in the world, but its well up there with the rest, ive got a Parker-Hale and its a very satisfying shot you almost cant miss but from a military stand point id put my money on the Dragonov.

well i can use whatever term i want for the iraqis
i have a name for everything (like most of the british) and everyones name for an iraqi in britain is RAGHEAD

SniperAlpha1

Sure you can say that but you shouldn't. look at the columbine shootings, those kids could shoot up the school, but that didn't mean they should have done that. i personally take offense to bigot terms like that. i'm not Muslim, but i don't like people dicriminating others for their nationality. we are talking only a minute amount of those iraqis who are causing trouble. only like 1 in 6000 or something like that.

The 'rag' in question would be the Arabian Shemagh headscarf,a traditional piece of headwear that evolved from the Turban and is worn for protection against the sun, wind, cold and sand storms. Its so good at its job that American and British forces have included it as an essential part their gear, and has replaced the old scrim net scarf, not just in desert conditions but all over the world. So the term 'raghead' now applies to most of our soldiers too.I wouldnt take too much offence Alpha from RM's comments,i bet the names they call us are alot worse like 'pig' and 'infadel'.
