I would do three main areas to prepare for basic, firstly gradualy work your way upto a 2 mile run in 14 minutes... secondly would work your way upto 40 sit ups and 40 pressups...... a rep of 40 should take you at military fitness no longer then 1 minute.... good luck... Warm up for them first, and when you reach the target times and quantities for 2/4 weeks constant, cut out the warm ups.... the Army will try your fitness on a "from cold position".... its important that a soldier is fit and lumber so he can go from a cold position into full flight laden with gear..... this requires good muscle tone and flexibility... stretch well for EACH WORKOUT until you are ready to run from cold.... stay off concrete... bad for knees... do it on grass... also, if you are running around a field.... do half the distance one, and then reverse, this makes sure your hamstrings and associated ligaments develop at an equal pace, reducing the likelyhood of injury when weight is applied to your runs in the form of kit....
