Hello, I have a quick question about the sights used on the m16s. Do they use the ones were there is a circle with a small hole that you look through? or do they use the ones you would find on an average hunting rifle? I was wondering because If I join, I have a hard time using the one with the circle. I just cant really see anything through it. Thank you in advance.

It depends the ones used for qualifing at basic are iron sights with the circle but alot of the guys in iraq are using red dots. A red dot if u dont know is a beam on a peice of glass for a sight, not a laser. My buddy is 150 Km N of bahgdad and he has a red dot, Irons just in case, and a 8x12 Luepold scope that mount to a pickintinny rail.

As fairbanks says, you can get scopes for the M16... however, I wouldnt be worried about shooting useing the apature sights.... In fact they are easier to use in a hurry..... (have trained on a similar weapon many moons ago), It just means getting a bit more tucked into the weapon stock then usual and focusing your vision through it.... I had trouble also, but wasnt long before I was hitting groupings the size of a 2 euro piece.... Your instructors will provide you with all the assistance you need to master the M16 sights..... wouldnt worry about it......

Im in basic now. and Im home for christmas. I just qulafied with the m16 I was worried about the Iron sights and looking thru the lil hole, but in the end when you learn the correct way to carry and hold the M16. The different firing positions it is not hard at all just do what your told and you will be fine.
