 Its me again... i have a few more questions. Well like I said my boyfriend just enlisted in the army in july. And he loves it, well he went to basic in Ft. Sill, OK and then he went to Alabama for A.I.T. training. He graduates from Alabama Dec. 18, he already has his orders and they are to be stationed at Ft. Bragg. That's great for me because i only live 30 minutes away. But everyone is telling me that if he gets stationed at Ft. Bragg that it won't be long before he gets deployed.:( I just need to know if this is false information or forreal.

when my husband came home from AIT his discharge papers said he didnt have enough training in to be deployed. i would think that be true for all who just come out because even though they been through basic and everything, war is so much more and they dont want anyone who is ready to go. have him check his papers and see if they say anything like that.

It really just depends......anyone can go at anytime. The army finds ways around everything, but it has nothing to do with where he is stationed. It can happen anywhere. Ft Bragg just has a hard rap because it is such a large post and there are a lot of infantry there. Infantry always gets deployed easily......but that does not mean he will unless he is infantry. It also depends on how long his AIT was to determine weather or not he has enough time in.

Got out of AIT December 15. Stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX, reported there December 30. Deployed to Iraq February 16. Deployment was quick for me but I have buddies that have 3 years in already and have not been deployed yet.

My recruiter was straight with me, she said if your infantry you got a 99% chance of being deployed in Iraq, Afgan and other places over sea's.

Ft. Bragg is a post that has many rapid-deploying elements. Chances are that he will deploy, but that is the nature of the beast right now.
It would be a miracle if he DIDN'T deploy form Ft. Bragg, though it would be terrible for his career and his morale (most of us want to be with our battle buddies, and hate watching the action on TV).
Well...I see that this post is old...maybe it helps anyway...stay strong!

Hmm.. what are the odds of deploying at Fort Drum?

Odds of deploying are very high, regardless of the base. In case some of you haven't noticed, we are currently engaged in a war with multiple fronts ... you WILL deploy. Period.
Id add to that by saying that theres no substitute to experience.... its tough being away from home is tough for sure... and life does not deal any cosey deals for the real soldier... but as the old saying goes, "when you enlist, you must soldier", so if your real and serious about being a soldier, think of deployment as an opportunity to gain valuable experience, and develop as a professional and as a person.. if it is hairy in deployment, its sure tough, but all you are doing is joining a breed of soldier thats experienced the same and gone before you... and when they get old, tell of the good and bad points of their experiences, and if asked would they do it different, if they had a choice.. answer is "No!".

Well I went into basic in march of 04 and got out of A.I.T. aug. 04 and and by oct 04 I was on my way to go to Iraq and I'm a reservist. If he active duty which make up 80% of the army over there I think, then he's more than likely going to go over. It may seem scary but he did join in a time of war and if you join now you have to expect to go over. Hope he is safe when not if he goes over.

It just depends... my hubby had to report to our post Sept 7th... and several units are leaving in Nov. We thought we were one of them, but apparently his group is WEIRD and is leaving mid June/July of 2008... that can change...
BASICALLY... it wouldn't be shocking if he deployed... it appears that IF someone goes overseas it averages 3 months after they get to their post... (as the earliest they would deploy as a newbie to the army.)
It will happen... eventually...

Yes, there are employment stations on post that will help find you a job. Did you say you had to quit you're job because of a high risk pregnancy?

Well, just go to your nearest post's career center. Have you thought about going to school instead? That way you are busy and moving forward with options for the future? I personally (after working the past 10 years) want to sit around (not really) and fill my days with kids laughing, community service and work-outs/sports... hahahaha BUT TO EACH ITS OWN. I love having no one to answer to, but staying busy! :) Have you thought about volunteering at the local MWR?

You're right to each his own...I don't really wanyt to work. Well I do...but I don't. I have a problem of once I larn how to do something...I lose interest in it. Hence I hate working...it doesn't keep me interested long enough. I have no use for jobs once I learn them. Well unless it's in the med field where I can work with blood. Ok sounds gross. but hey it's what I like, you know? Secondly...my mind tends to do more thinking on missing my hubby, and how he's doing, and what not, when I'm on a job, compaired to when I'm at home. Now that I don't get one bit, BUT OH WELL. I'm just an odd person, I guess.

YES! I agree with the constantly thinking and daydreaming... I need to be moving to get my mind off things and a desk job doesn't do much for me. that is why the gym was awesome for me... I would be there for an hour to an hour and a half and it was GREAT!

My son went into Boot Camp in April, graduated in August, arrived at Forth Lewis immediately after boot camp, and is on his way to Iraq next Saturday. My problem is that he was told he could take a quick leave before deploying the rest of his unit had already had theirs. He made reservations, they changed his leave, we changed the reservations, they changed again, we changed again, and now almost $1000 later, they have taken it away completely. I tell my son that it's the Army and he has to be tough and trust that they know what they are doing, but my blood is boiling right now!!! What recourse does he have???

What recourse does he have???
Little or none.
Somehow sometime his SGT might make it up to him, not moneywise but there are ways.
It was probably out of the hands of the one who promised him. They probably need him to get up to speed before deployment. Hopefully it'll turn out to be in his own best interest.
He could go. But when they tell you that they are going it will be hard. And it may seem like a long time to be away from one another. But really the time goes by fast. He'll be home in no-time. I got engaged to a soldier. And they called him to Iraq. And it seems as if he could come home at any time. They say if you are going to be deployed you really don't know for how long you would be over there. They can say a year. But they could come home in six months. That may seem long. But with all the acttiveties you are doing. It goes by. Just hang in there. If you need some one to talk to we are here for you.
