I am one confused individual and I don't know what I should do. I turn 18 on the 25th of this month and it's actually starting to scare me. I graduate on June 2nd of this year, and that's scaring me even more. I don't know what I should do... should I join the Army or should I do what I always said I was going to do and go to ITT Tech or ECPI. If I joined the army I would join for computers, and computers only.
I am so confused/scared right now, and I dont know what to do.
And no... im not a *****, i just hit a time in my life where I am really confused.

Hi Sean (Great Irish Name by the way...:) )
Well lad, you are very young and have a full lifetime of choices ahead.... youdo seem confused as to what career to take up, well my advise is take up whats easiest to change, where you can bring skills with you... What motivation to you have for joining the Army? Recruiters will sell it to you and "it will be fine". You shouldnt have to be sold the Army, you should come lookin for it.... However, but if you are not 100% on board with the choice for Army, when dont do it.... go study computers, get a girlfriend, have fun.... get qualified and when you have your degree, you will be more mature in your adult years and better informed on your choices in life..... if at that time, you wish to join, you will have a degree and option for Officer School.... stick with your study lad, it will not let you down especially if you decided as a committed 21yr old to go Army.... you will have a happier life in the Army and better prospects there.... Good Luck!...

My motivation for joining the army is for my education. I don't know if I can get in to ECPI or ITT with my grades, and if I don't I need something to fall back on. It looks like right now the only thing to fall back on is the Army. My dad served in the Army and got out right before the Gulf War (couldn't get promoted). Anyways, If I don't stay in school my parents will kick me out. So as of right now I am trying to get in to ECPI and if that doesnt work then I will be joining the army.
oh and thanks for the complement about my name, my brother and sister both have irish names as well (cause well... were all part irish in my family :) )

Sounds like staying in school and getting the grades up would be the way to go bud... have a hard think about it before doing it the hard way....;)
I got educated 3rd level in the Army and it was a great acheivement... however, whilst my 2nd level education sucked as a teenager, I did finish it.... I recommend you do the same, and 3rd level is open to you as a Soldier....

Don't join the Army for "an education." You'll only end up bitter and an annoyance to everyone that has to work with you.
While getting an education is a selling point for the military, if it is your only and major reason for wanting to join then you are joining for the wrong reasons. Search deep before signing that line.

Sean you are turning 18, calm down and handle this like an adult collect your thoughts.but dont join the military for education do it for the love of your country. it will be hard work and you dont always get the job you want. Everyone knows computers are the future of the to military and the way our world and country is ran they will give those sort of jobs to highest scores on certain parts of the mos. this is a job that you have to be dedicated i to because there are alot more rules than there is at a civilian job but the thing is you say you want to only work with computers you have to remeber you are soldier first and you will be doing more than work with computers if you are this scared i say dont do it get a student loan and go to college or a technical school and if you change your feelings about going to the army cal you local recruitin office and join.
