u cant answer that i am afraid, unless you totally narrow down the feild.
all weapons have their purpose, none is really better than the other unless tested in their same class.
for example, a mossberg shotgun would be much more effective killing one man then a nulear warhead, but if it were alot of guys, the nuke would rule the day

personaly i feel that Israel is the only country with justification to deploy nuclear weapons, against Jordan.
Otherwise, i've always fancised the look of the Mother Of All Bombs (or MOAB). That or the Daisy Cutter for some quick anti-infantry field clearing.
Let me say, the United States is fantastically famous for inventing new weapons and warheads for an infinate number of purposes when the necessity arises.

There is always a new wonder weapon...
Electronic armour for tanks, that literally vapourises the nasty liquid metal that ends up coming out of an RPG..
the 'corner shot' that can shoot round corners
A steel exoskeleton for troops to they can carry more equipment
Enviromentaly- responsive camoflauge
Driving your enemy mad with special noise
One of my faviorite completely wacky ideas the one that the british marines were looking at awhile back. Basicaly you have what looks like a LAW, except when you fire this, a long stream of foam spays out and solidifyes. This is used for bridging gaps in urban combat situations. Although I'm not sure how far they are on this project, if they havent given up already... i have only read about it in a UK defense magazing, and not seen any pictures.
One of the more realistic weapons around the corner is the OICW, Objective individual combat weapon. This is being developed by HK. Basicaly it is your simple 5.56 assault rifle.. with a huge grenade launcher smacked on top. This is not your stander rifle mounted grenade launcher though, oh no... It has a magazine, a magazine for a 20mm grenade laugher? Yes, but thats not what makes it special.
There is a range finder bult into the scope, with a computer system. If there is an annoying enemy hiding behind a wall, you simply look through your scope, find out the range, and, after a few clicks of various controls, you fire your 20mm grenade. This goes to the target as you would expect it would, then it airburts right about yoru target, disabling or killing him...........
The US is considering this, but so far it looks very costly, with the 20mm grenade round costing $25 a piece, which makes for an expensive rangeday... Although when it goes into production they will industiralise it and try to bring it down to $15. And there is a target round.
