Hi, recently I've been wondering about joining the Reserves. From what I seem to understand, you need to take basic combat training and advanced individual training initially. After, you're required to go to drills about once a month, and have to attend annual training for 2 weeks every year. Now, what I don't know is how it will affect my life if I do join.

- How long does it take to complete basic combat training and advanced individual training? Right now I'm a freshmen in college, and am wondering how much time I would have to put off from college if I join the reserves.

- How often are reserves called to active duty and how long do they generally serve?

- (A stupid question but just want to make sure) After I complete the basic combat and individual training I can still go to college without interuptions? (Aside from the drills and annual training)

Any answers whether they're accurate or vague would help.

my husband was in basic and ait from Jan. until July. ait training length depends on your MOS. now on active duty, you never know when you get called up, and for how long. its basicly when the government needs ya.

Split option is the way to go...In the Army National Guard They say you can't be called to service for two years...but like Kay said..if at any time your unit is needed...you will have to go. Some guys finished school n/p while others were called to service.

it always depends on rotation of your unit... NGB rotates on 7yr cycle and the active goes 4yrs.... just depends
