College girl wants to join military!

Hi my name is Liz. I have been wanting to join the military for quite some time, however I haven't really gotten any straight answers from anyone about my question. So here it is and I'm hoping to hear from someone. I'm hard of hearing and have a desire to join. However, when I have talked to some recruiters I feel they don't want to give me the time of day, because I feel they look at me like I'm a nobody because I have a disability. But anyhow i have about 75% of my hearing the only problems I have is hearing really high pitches but other than that I do fine. I do have hearing aids that I can wear, but I can do fine without them. You're looking at a girl that really really wants to join to serve my country. But my country doesn't even look at me because I have a disability. I want to serve my country, so how can I do that?

did you look into ROTC? most major colleges have them, and mine is really great about telling yuo what will disqualify you and what you can get waivers for. they will do waivers for almost anything right now, since they need people.

as far as i know from reading the manuals and regulations only 100% hearing loss is an automatic disqualifier from joining.

absolutely you should be able to join, this disability might limit you to CERTAIN jobs you might be able to hold once in, but you should definitely be able to join... i wouldnt talk with the recruiters like "do you think i could join"

Tell them you WANT TO JOIN. recruiters get money for each recruit, they will be happy to sign you :)

I am hard-of-hearing and i can talk well, but I just want to join Navy Seals. in Isreal, they welcome handicap people to serve in their army and they did so well!

Britian and US are extremely retarded and a racist. US should put that to a test to DETERMINE if they should go ahead and proceed to allow deaf people in the army. Besides, reseacher have indicated that deaf people have much better eye to arm coordination than hearing people! Get the fact straight before being one hell of a facist.

Each country's standards are different. Some of which even have mandaory military service! At least in north america it's optional.

You shouldn't have a problem getting in with the military. With todays modern laws and technologies there are ways around almost any obstacle.

Britain and US are not, actually, retarded. Should officers learn to give orders in sign language, and risk the leaves of capable soldiers just to please a few politically-correct knobends like you? liz, there are military profiles for the different fields... they used the pulhes factors.

p- physical fitness and stamina
u- upper extremities
l- lower extremities
h- hearing and ears
e- eyes
s- psychiatric

Of course I swore when I was 13......but generally not at people older than me...that is considered rude......and also at the age of 13 I did not go around telling people double my age or more how the world works.....no-one at that age really has the life experience to try to debate complex issues at a reasonable level. And now as I´m turning 29 I can without blinking tell you that I have a very nice life.....you just work on getting yourself one.......
