Money for Spouse??

Hi
My hubby is leaving for basic May 3. He is ARMY (active duty) We have no children and I'm planning on staying in New Jersey. My husband will be with his unit in Georgia. We rent an apartment in Jersey now. His recruiter told him he will get an additional $250 per month along with his military pay to take care of stuff around the house. Is this so? Is there any other financial help available for spouses with out children? I know if I move with him we will get housing pay but.... I have a job and family here.

the extra money is your housing allowance. it is to help pay bills. if you had children you would get family seperation pay. i dont think there is anything for not having kids. good luck with your new army life.

She is right the extra money is for help paying bills, and I do belive that if you are married then he is entilited to serperation pay for duty over a period of time which I also belive includes basic....

just hang in there while he is gone when he is done then you can go to the finacial help center on post and they have more resources available to you guys....

Family Separation Allowance is $250.00 per month and is payable if you have a dependent. A spouse qualifies, unless he/she is placed in an institution for more than a year.

The entitlement isn't paid until after the first 30 days but the start date is retroactive to the original date of separation. In other words the entitlement can't be paid until after 4 June but the start date will be 3 May. Reason: FSA is not paid unless the delay is more than 30 days.
