I've been talking to a recruiter for awhile now and narrowing down the MOS that I want to [Attempt] to sign up for. The ones that sound appealing to me are as follows:

Military Police Branch:
- Any.

Military Information Branch:
- Counter Intelligence Agent.
- Human Intelligence Collector

Does anyone out there have experience in these fields they'd like to share or feelings on them. Trying to narrow it down to one specific field before I go up to Portland for processing.

Given the nature of Intelligence, dont expect anybody sharing stories on a public forum...

I wasn't figuring on details like that. Just their opinions on the MOS. If they enjoyed it and the like.

MP, eh. If you want to be a security guard, go for it. It's not a horrible job, and it can get you out in the field. But there's a lot of suck time involved.

Counter-Intel requires 2 years service, unless they have very recently changed it. So you won't be able to get that one on intial entry. Double check with your recruiter. This can be a hit or miss job, you could be in the field, doing some cool guy stuff .. or you could be stuck on the FOB doing not so cool guy stuff.

Human Intel, about the same as far as assignments.

Both are pretty good jobs as far as intel go and can open a lot of doors for you later on. Just remember, entry level in just about every job the military offers, esp. in Intel isn't going to be extremely exciting. You've got to learn the ropes before you can get out and do the cool stuff.

Your choices are pretty good and solid.

I am currently pursuing a re-class to COINTEL agent...you must be an E-4 or above, so that pretty much puts it out of reach as a entry level position unless you can squeeze some rank out of your recruiter for JROTC or something...

lol I can't take MP seriously ever since that episode of MASH with the MP thief. And then on Twelve O'Clock High the lame MP at the gate.

MP... well, let me put it to you this way... at DH BCT grad... there was an MP group that graduated before them... and Commander said "Watch your speed a whole bunch of MPs graduated today and they are axious to use their training..." Ummm... so if you want to be involved in security guard, domestic viloence on post, and speeding tickets... go for it... we need MPs too... but I can't say that it is our cup of tea.

My DH is in Intel and LOVES it. He is planning on doing the Warrant Officer deal. He's starting bottom. However, he is SO HAPPY with his choice. His brothers are all in Intel too (although we didn't know it until after he mentioned it to everyone... not a very close family). Although, lots would say it isn't a cool MOS either... ROFL One guy (infantry) told my DH that he HATED intel guys... while they are out shooting insurgents... intel was playing cards at the TOC... ROFL... OK so maybe they had some down time... Anyway, you'll get a lot of crap from everyone in anything you choose... no matter what - you are trained to kill... and remind them that... Downsides... you will become paranoid... think everyone is out to get you... sit facing doors...

Have fun... I am sure things will work out. Everyone has an important job in the Army. :)
