my unit is up for deployment?

i went to my unit for the first time today and he said that our unit is up for deployment, he said we will go soon IF we go, but we might not.
I mean what exactly does 'UP FOR DEPLOYMENT" mean then?

my husbnads unit has been put up for possible deployment aswell. it means they are going to prepare you to go, but they may not have to send you. they want you to be ready just in case so they dont have to run around at the last minute to get you ready. before you get deployed you will have to leave for a couple months for deployment training. now they are going to go ahead and get all your medical and stuff in place. lots of papers to fill out, lots of shots that will make you feel like a semi knocked the **** out of ya, things like that. they told my husbnad jan. so he should be leaving for predeployment in about october sometime, you know, if they go.
