 Okay let me start from the beginning. My husband has been back and forth at the recruiters for almost two weeks now. He has his GED and he scored kind of low on the ASVAB but he passed (35). Also to make things a little bit more complicated he has a couple misdemeanors (nothing violent or drug related). Now the recruiter told him that in order for him to enlist he needed 15 college credits. We went and enrolled him in school to begin March 20. We emailed his recruiter to let him know we had done this and this morning we received a phone call from his boss stated that they saw how much he really wanted into the Army so they were going to get him in and that he needed to be down at their office @ 12. He rushed down there and they started talking, they asked him to get his Juvinile Record from the courthouse, which he did, and then they tell him that there's nothing they can do for him to go home.
As you can imagine my husband was destroyed and I was furious. I called them and asked them about the college credits and they said "I told your husband there was nothing I could do for him" then they hung up on me. He has since called four other recruiters which basically told him the same thing. I AM NOT UNDERSTANDING!! First they tell us to get college credits and now they say sorry for your luck. Can anyone help us with this?

F.Y.I ~ There was nothing on his Juvi record except traffic violations.

It doesn't sound right, but recruiters are lying ****bags that will tell you ANYTHING to get you in the army so I believe it. Any one else reading this take note: Your recruiter will lie to you so double check everything on your own before you sign the papers.

Yeah some recruiters will say anything but its more like this: People hear what they want to hear and when it doesnt pan out like they want, they start to ***** and then its "oh the recruiter lied to me". You are right in one regard, dont sign any contract unless it has exactly what you want to do on it. Your recruiter cant tell you what job you'll get, your line scores and the MEPS career counselor will help you determine that.

As for the original poster, what were the traffic violations and how many? There are only a set number that can be waivered and then there are a number of violations that cant be waved at all. The recruiter must have seen something on your husband's record that was unwaiverable. The only thing you could really do, and even then its a huge long shot, is ask specificly what the problem is and then talk to the Battalion Commander about possibly getting a moral waiver. Also, the recruiter is looking at how long ago these violations took place. If your husband is young and the violations were while he was in his late teens then the likelyhood of the waiver being granted are much lower.

You and your husband should contact your local Army National Guard Recruiter. Since you husband has a GED and scored a 35 on the ASVAB, he may be eligible for a sign on bonus with the Guard. The "Big Army" recruiters are at times, not allowed to accept applicants with a GED and sometimes they can take one, but only if they scored 50 or better on the ASVAB.
