so, i am interested in joing the military. i almost joined the air force a couple of years ago, but chickened out :(
i am very interested in the army reserves, but dont know much about it. i know its only 2 weeks out of the year, and a few weekends also, but do you need to go to basic training also? what do you do exaclty in the reserves? what do you need to have prepared? is there a chance i could go overseas and fight? i just have so many questions...
so if someone could help me, i would appreciate it very much :)

Yes you still have to go to BCT and meet the age, educational and physical requirements. Yes, chances are good that you will have to go over. They say two weeks a year... and a few weekends... but you end up doing more during war times and whatnot... My brother in law is a reservist and has had three tours and is going to Fallujah now.
Hope that helps.

yep yep yep. same basic and ait training as active duty. while your station is not called up for duty, then it is only one weekend a month two weeks a year type thing. when your called up, whether its to go over seas and fight or if your area has a massive hurricane or somthing, you work until they are done with you. these days, everyone is doing a tour overseas so be prepared either way.

You will attend Basic Training and an AIT.
Prior to your leaving you will be assigned to a unit. You will very likely drill with the unit a couple of time prior to leaving for the training. This will give you a good idea what the unit's deployment schedule is like.
This is a good time for you, you can change your mind if you don't think you will like it.
While you are with the unit you will have to drill 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year.
As a reservist, you don't have to worry about cleaning up natural disasters and such. That is left to the national guard as they are assigned to the state government and reserves are federal. In 1997 I was assigned to a Reserve Engineer unit as the fire support NCO. There was a flood on the Ohio River literally a 1/4 mile away. We had $43 million worth of equipment that could help and the closest we came to the flood was watching it on TV.
As for what you do, it depends on your job. if your a medic you will hold clinics, the engineer's I was with built a park and a nature walk. It will depend on the units mission and of course funding.
