I'm sure this has been asked before but please bare with me.

Some background: My husband was recently stationed to Hawaii. His paper work said something about his family not going with him, unaccompanied. I live in VA. We decided that I would stay here (since we have a house) because he's likely to be deployed.

He just went through some inprocessing. They said it would be up to his 1st Sgt if he would be able to live in the barracks since he's receiving a w/dependents BAH. Does anyone know the rules surrounding this since his paper work said he's alone?

im not positive on this but here's my thought. i believe living in the barracks is free, so they dont get a BAH. since he's getting a BAH for you to help with your housing cost at home, he may be required to pay for his housing. for example, if a family goes to base and lives, they get no BAH but free housing. if they choose to live off base, they get the BAH to help pay those cost.

like i said, i dont know for sure but that sounds pretty good to me:)

Ok Hawaii is considered an oversees tour... but you can bring your family there... if you elect not to take them you will recieve BAH for where ever your Family is at... and The Soldier will reside in the Barracks, the Army calls it a Geographic Bachealor(bad spelling) for free..... the 1SG has no choice in the matter until the Soldier is in the Rank of E-6 SSG at which point they are no longer allowed to live in the barracks, there are exceptions to this, as with everything, just have to look it up and find them... there out there
