my son had the same problem he had to work very hard at eating less more salads fruits proteins like chicken, fish and turkey .more fruit less fat and pizza

he had to increase the regime of running and, swimming starting with 15 lenghs increasing by 5 every session i would advise 3 swimming sesswions per week say 6weeks if you push your self you can do it find someone to push you and challenge you it helps you might not like it but it may help you.start today as you mean to go on all the best son

its easy to lose weight... i am bodybuilding as a hobby and that requires alot of knowledge on nutrition and the kinds... so my advise is to check out http://forum.bodybuilding.com/

to lose weight slowly and healthy eat 500 less carbs under ur standard... that'll make u lose like 0,5kg's everyday... if u find it hard to lose weight by eating less then u need to do some serious training... running, swimming, aerobics, and everything else that makes u sweat!

and for the god of love drop everything related to fastfood...

ohhh...........well it depends on what your eating mate cut the crap and have more fruit and
veg

whats your fitness like? when i was training to be a fighter the best exercise i found for cuting
the fat was five mintue burns(dont know what you call it there)

basiclly if youv got a good gym near you first do a 30min easy jog then do 5 min hard on as many cardio machines as you can(because the body adapts to a type of exercise every five mins so change it every 5 for best effect)bulid your self up to it though...............if you dont
have a good gym then id go for fat leging........fat leging is a superb exercise that a lot of boxers still use....you just jog for 30-60secs then sprint for 10secs or jog a lampost sprint
a lampost.................allways try to do a some weights too

try and do the 5min burn regime every second day in the days in between do long distance
jogs build up though 30-60-90min,ect

also try supplemts i use "eph-25" these things make you train there thermogenics so be sur to drink plenty of water while training above all else will power stick to it dont give up there will be days cant be botherd have a day off but no more than one or two at the max
got any questions gez a shout ;)

Ok kids, if your not making the grade on BMI then go to a professional.... Talk to your assigned PT instructor for a programme of food and Exercise thats suitable for you to get into Army Shape... Good luck JAG... I think if you hook up with the right instructor, you will do fine....

Firstly, you need to be aware of your ideal body weight, and a fitness instructor is very handy to evaulate you for your BMI Score (Body Mass Index) and get a training regime upto scratch for ya.....

If, 195lbs is your ideal weight, then it can be done... you need to exercise regularly, and if possible eat regularly too.... I would take mineral water with you on the road instead of coffee.... its better for concentration anyway... I would bring fruit with you also... you should eat 3 pieces of fruit a day.. use them as snacks... and make sure you eat fresh food at your main meals idealy 4 times a day.. eat the bulk of your food in the morning, so you digest food when active, and not asleep at night... I would exercise gently for 30 minutes a day (speed walking would be an ideal start), and you will find yourself loosing weight fast.... its not an overnight thing but 3 months, you will notice a HUGE change to your current state... If your serious, I would join a gym and get professionally and medically assesed BEFORE starting any weight loss regime..... It sounds strict but if your overweight, the last thing you need is medical complications from too much weight loss too quickly or from overexercise... its dangerous to go OTT.... Talk to the professionals first, and then committ to the lifestyle changes to allow you to reduce weight and stay in shape.... Good Luck...

OK all you chubs. Here's what you have to do. Eat healthy like it's already been posted. Cut fats, sugars & carbs. But all this has already been advised.

RUN,RUN, & when you're done run some more. Start off easy & work your way up. I have no idea what sort of physical shape you're in or what your ages are but you're gonna have to run in the Army in general & in BCT in particular. Time to see if you can pass the Army Physical Readiness Test (APRT).

My advise is to run every other day & swim an alternate days. Go for 2 miles initially & work your way up to 5. Try to exceed the minimum requirements. If you're too sore to run after the 1st few times then walk 5 miles, then 10 miles. Don't stroll but walk at a fast clip.If you have a dog it'll be an ideal time to take him for a walk & you'll have companionship.

While you're preparing your body for entry in the Army don't forget pushups & situps. Have a recruiter show you the proper forms. Strive to exceed the Army's PT test minimum scores.

Don't lose weight by dehydrating yourself. That's the fastest way to ruin yourself.

As for the truck driver & eating on goofy schedules just eat sensibly. No hamburgers, pies, donuts, hashbrowns & all the usual foods sold at truckstops or diners. You can have some but really cut down. Whole grain bread at a small amount, fruits, vegetables & baked chicken & fish. Stay away from fried food.

The time to start is NOW. Don't waste even a day. Did I mention alcoholic beverages? (Exo stop crying). NONE! not even on the holidays. I'll ammend that a wee bit : a small glass of wine occasionally is alright. Good for your heart. Plent of antioxidants. Little or no soda pop & if you have to then go the sugar free route. Fruit juices are OK but try to find natural with no sugar added. 2% or skim milk in non-sweetened cereal & in your coffee. Drink coffee for a pick-me-up. Caffein is OK in moderate doses & it'll kill some of your appetite.

No fad diets or diet pills! Do as much as you can naturally.

I was a competition Karate sensei, a wrestling coach & a Judo coach for years. I still coach Judo & have had good success getting competitors down to lower weight classes without sacrificing strength & endurance.

Keep yourself well hydrated while performing your PT. The only time you can dehydrate yourself slightly is just before you go to MEPS if you're close to your required weight. It won't bother you guys too much because you won't be competing in any sports but start rehydrating yourself immediately after weigh-in.

Keep us posted on your progress. I want a report weekly by you guys. I expect it on Thursday or Friday when I'm at work & have access & time on the computer. Each time you report give me your former weight & your present weight. There's lots of you on this site with a weight problem & my memory is $hitty. I want results & as a Master Sgt. I expect them if you want to join my Army.

Just kidding guys. But once you master the 2 mile run to specs then a ruck with 35-50 lbs. isn't a bad idea especially if you're going combat arms, Infantry in particular.

I also forgot to mention - Get a GOOD pair of running shoes in the correct size.

You're going the wrong way Bunker! Last week you weighed 214. That's a 3 lb. gain in weight! Now try losing those 3 & 3 more. Maybe it's all water weight. I don't know if you drink coffee ( I don't know any trucker who doesn't) but that'll kill your appetite somewhat. When you feel like nibbling then grab a cuppa joe. Try to lose at least 3 lbs. a week. I think that's do-able. I wouldn't go more than 7 lbs./week. Maybe 10 but I think that's too much. I'll wait for your report next week. I give you credit. You're the only one that followed orders so far. But then there's tomorrow. Maybe the other guys will report their progress or lack thereof. I'm not here to make your lives miserable I'm just trying to get you guys in the Army. (I lied about not trying to make your lives miserable. I'm a Master Sergeant & that's my job:D)
Wait 'til the Drill Sergeants get a hold of you & if you think they're bad if you go into the Rangers the Ranger Instructors will make the DSs look like choir boys.

Try weighing yourself on the same scale if it's an accurate scale. There's lots of discrepency between scales, sometimes 5 lbs per 100 lbs.

Are you using the same scale for every weigh-in? At our Judo club we have a mechanical scale & an electronic one. They typically are 3 lbs off from each other. We put a 50 lb weight on them & calibrate from there. The electronic scale never needed calibrating.

Weigh yourself after a good dump & pee.:D

That's why excercise is so important along with a weight-reducing diet. Hopefully it's mostly water weight. But you're gonna have to start running & swimming. Any lifting iron will add muscle but muscle weighs more than fat. But if you have muscle weight you can get a pinch test for body fat. A small waist & thick neck always helps. Don't forget the pushups & situps! the SUs will give you a flat belly & strong abs.

Don't give up & say f..k it. It'll all come together for you if you try hard enough. The goal you have is to join the Army & if you want it bad enough you'll do it no matter what it takes!

Hey Bunker brother...it's me Nightflyer...Sorry,.. I've been away on lite duty but we've been working nonetheless....I've been given fron my trainers a D-1 workout routine and schedule that we had to fax back to our coaching staff every sunday during my off season.... geared for speed and strenght and it was also given to my D-men who are. "avg" 6'3 235lbs...You may have to make slight adjustments but given time the schedule will make you Right and Ready....

I received the (Army Superior Physical Fitness Award) twice... 2006/2007 AlphaCompany, 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment, 1st Basic Combat Training Brigade.....and Air Assualt training school and P/T excellence.....A suggestion...If I we're you......I would also throw some dumbells in the rig...For every sip of coffee you take ....bang-out about 75 reps....not bulk but reps for strenght...and speed...

Leg strength
Torso strength
Upper body strength
Strength is never a negative....lack of flexibility is..

Strength is the key element in;
1.Power
2.Speed

Run (1 to 3 miles)
Flexibility Training ( Stretching)
Aerobic Training...bike work and jump rope
Weight training..(keep it safe)
Run ( sprints.20 yards..50 yards..75 yards 100 yards)
Every other day....

Good luck

Nightflyer.

Lots of good advice in here. when i started my Pt i weighed in at 324lbs and as of yesterday im down to 284. ive lost this much in a little over a month. i was curious as to what if any types of shakes or other things like that that i can take on top of regular eating to aid in me loosing my gut. i dont want a full diet supplement lol i couldnt go without eating, its been hard enough to have nothing but plain chicken for dinner and cheerios for breakfast lol so if anyone knows about something i can take to burn some fat let me know 8)
