My husband is an Army Reservist and we live and work in VA. He has been selected to deploy to Iraq with a unit in TX later this year. Do we get BAH allowance for VA or for TX? I'm confused about this. We've lived in VA for over 14 years.

Thanks!

We always got BAH for the area my family actually lived in which in my case was Milwaukee, WI even though I was at Benning, Bragg & overseas. Unless things have changed I don't think you'll have a problem. Housing is housing no matter where it's at. There are different scales of BAH & BAS depending in which area you live in. I'm not sure when it kicks in for a Reservist. Possibly after 179 days but I would think it'll kick in right away.

To add : if you move to TX then you'll get BAH for that area & if you stay in VA then you'll receive that BAH.

Mobilized reserve component service members draw BAH based on home of record ZIP code.
