Hi, I'm interested in joining the military (obviously). I am currently finishing my first year at college and have came to the conclusion that it is not for me. It's fun and all but I don't like my major and when asked what I see myself doing in 10 years I draw a complete blank.

And since I have always wanted to serve my country in the military I have more or less decided to quit college and join. The problem is that in the 2nd semester of my junior year of high school I was put on anti-depressent medication, which I continued use of for about 6 or 7 months, and then quit. I have been feeling great ever since. Can I still join the army with a small history of depression? I have asked others but have gotten mixed answers. And while I have yet to ask an army recruiter about the subject I have asked a marine recruiter around the time I graduated high school and he said no. Would the army be more lenient?

What do you think?

in the army as a pfc, you are worthless, just another expendable face. meaning nothing to your superiors. you do what your told, when your told, how your told and not told the reason of what you were told. i for one could not live like that, because you have to deal with officers who dont care about you or your div. only victory. most of the men in the reg army would push you out in front of them to take their bullet. not all of coarse, but vets and freinds have told me STAY AWAY FROM THE REGULAR ARMY. the marines are bullett stoppers, if that tells you every thing. hoorah is overrated. "ours is not to question why, ours is just to do or die" which i do not agree with. which is why the sepcial forces appeals to me, more choices, and your are valued.

Would it be better if you got a Masters Degree and completed JROTC and ROTC before you join the arm? Thats what I'm planning to do.

Alot of people join the military so they can have the privlege of going to college, for you to drop out of college to join the military is pure stupidity, and if you do it you will regret it. If you really want finish college and join as an officer. Also you can always change your major, plus in life it doesnt really matter what you like. Can you complete your college with the major your currently in even if you dont like it? Now thats a test. If you can't even do that you have no business joining the military.
