Greetings!

The nervousness is beginning to kick in just a little, and for good silly reasons. Over a week ago I went to MEPS and made it into the Army, but by bodyfat (21.76%, 26% maximum for my height and age), and am getting worried I'll be the only on who gets to BCT overweight or unable to do tons of pushups. The recruiter and a buddy who's in the Army are trying to reassure me by telling me that I'll find plenty of people who are either overweigt, or can't even do one pushup. Is this true?

How can there be people who can't do a pushup when you have to pass that odd PT test they do in DEP?

The MOS I picked is 15R, and I'm hoping all goes well. I'm just really not wanting to be like that Gomer Pyle. Anyways, I head out to MEPS again on the 7th and take the plane out to Ft Jackson on the 8th. Will go to 18 weeks of AIT at Ft Eustis.

Any information, feedback, or comments would be welcome. I'm just hoping I'm stressing over nothing. As it is, I'm almost 15-20 pounds over my max, so am feeling a little afraid of getting too much 'special attention' or screwing up too bad.

i would really say it depends on your physical condition. Im personally overweight by about 20 pounds... yet i can do about 75 pushups/situps and run sub 13:00 mile..

But yes, you will find many others that Barely make weight restrictions for basic. You probably have people that have never worked out in their life. the 50-60p pt test to go to basic isnt very hard, so you gotta figure u got below average atheletes who can still cut it in the military.
This isnt the 70's, while drill instructors are strict, they cannot treat soldiers like they once could.
I cant say you wont have trouble if you go to BCT out of shape, but i can say that there will be others just like you at basic.

I would suggest working on your pushups, you got a month :)

most people are scared or nervous about BT you have no need to be ... the weight thing will change with time.. just be mentaly ready for what comes.. its nothing bad trust me.. ive been in the army for 4 years. and ive made SGT just last month.. before BT i was so nervous you wouldent belive because of the people who relied on me.. i come from a military familly and all.. the push up just try your hardest.. you will be doing alot of them trust me and u will be able to do them with eas after a while.. its mind over body.. push urself to the max.. when your body says no more dont let it get to you because you can do double of what your used to.. and there indeed will be people that are bigger than you.. but you wont see them letting it get tothem at all. this is your future dont let anything ever get in your way... when you cant do somthing just tell yourself just a few more.. just a few more.. when you feel down. think of somthing positive. its alla mind game and be the best at it.. and you will come a long way in the armed forces.. trust me...

good luck.. and huaaa

Hey, i just graduated from basic at jackson like 2 weeks ago, it sucks at first yeah, but then u get used to it and u start to totally think the army way and you think, act, and live totally different. Its cool actually. There were alot of people that sucked at PT, but they will try their hardest to help you pass and to motivate you. There were 2 poeple that didnt pass in my platoon, but everything they did was so jacked up. You have to give a ****, if not, seeeeee ya. Heh..
