umm, is that the context you were after, officer doing enlisted job recieving officer pay??
if so, i have to question whether or not you understand the distinction between and officer and a enlisted man/woman.
in most corps (esp. infantry) the officers and enlisted men are working side by side, doing the same work. of course at the end of the day and officer must to revision and debreif work. The officer does get paid more though, mainly due to different entry standards, education and such.

Most officers generally have a better educational background which enables them to receive a higher level of pay. You don't see a sergeon wearing sergeant stripes do you? No, most surgeons are Capt. and above, due to the extra skills. Civilian jobs pay better for most higher educated positions (doctors, lawyers, engineers). Leadership ability is rewarded with a promotion (hence extra pay). In the Canadian Forces we have different levels of pay for all ranks, depending on experience/skills. There are 16 different pay grades for Captain alone. That is due to the fact that most officers retire around the rank of captain. Some that serve until retirement will generally get a promotion a year or two before the retirement date. That also depends on numbers. The top captains pay exceeds that of a newly promoted Major. A Sergeant may make more than a 1Lt depending on experience! It's all variable.
If you have a Maj. in charge of a company who is retiring in say one year. One of the group captains will get a promotion to Maj (lower pay grade until he takes over the company) to work along side the company commander. However, that doesn't always happen, it depends on numbers and availability. It's not uncommon to have a colonel running a corps, and another colonel as the D/CO. Each corps has it's own policies that the CO sets in accordance with the federal government.
I hope that helps a bit.
