Ok here's the update. He is coming home on the 22nd of March and he has hometown recruiting for a week and then he has to leave to go to Tx and by there by the 5th of April, then his orders say he has deploymant in June. he was not going to tell me until he was in Tx but one of his buddys told my daughter the other night so he had to tell me before she did.
So does that sound right? Do you think he is keeping anything else from me? I told him I would like to know before hand so I can get ready too! Have not seen him in three months and when he is here he has so much to do.
Hey got a question! My daughter is getting married in November, he want be albe to come home for that will he? Darn it I didn't know why I have not thought about that before now. He was going to be the one to walk her down the path to her beloved!:) I guess we have to firgure this one out!
Happy days are a coming!

If he deploys in June - which there are many on post that are leaving in June - it MAY be possible for him to get an early RR to get home by November... it really just depends on his command. I have heard of some getting RR as early as 4 months into deployment, but it is rare.
He is his own person - he can with hold or share whatever he wants. You may not like it, but that is the reality of adults living their own lives. haha As annoying as it is - we as parents - just have to accept it and support them.

My son arrived at Fort Lewis in September after basic and was supposed to ship out in late October, due to some paperwork issues he ended up not leaving until December. I was a little freaked out too, but they will make sure he is ready to go. Don't let it cloud his time at home. Just enjoy him being there. He may not have told you because he doesn't want it to be the focus of his stay. My son really didn't want to talk about it that much.

My son graduated in November and did the week of hometown recruiting, reported to his base in December and deployed in January. It was like a whirlwind! He too didn't tell us about his deployment orders at first...but he finally did when we were alone one day. I think he was hesitant because he didn't know how we were going to react as we had originally thought he wouldn't deploy until June...

You family members need to educate yourselves on OPSEC as well as PERSEC. I don't care what the news talks about, those in or involved with the military do not EVER discuss deployment dates, info etc. Every little bit of information you leak out gets read, you may not think it is important, doesn't mean it isn't. Remember that, and take it very seriously.
As for your son, he doesn't have deployment orders if he hasn't even reported to his duty station. All his orders tell him is to report to Unit XYZ at Base ABC on this date, nothing else.

I educated myself on another forum today on PERSEC and found that it was well posted for new users stating "Please Read Before Posting" Perhaps this site should think about doing the same, like in the Introduction Forum, just a suggestion. And by the way, your name suits you...;)

Jacksonmom, youre missing the point, deployment times is particularly sensitive information and Tacky has outlined why.... ie Anyone can be reading.... Im not familiar with those US Army documents, but know a thing or two about operational security and can say deployment times are No1 secret for units preparing to deploy.... cos if it leaks, the enemy gets it and men die.. simple as that... and that is the responsibility of every soldier and his family to make sure that if they know, no-one else does... best familiarise yourself in detail with those concepts.. I will find and post something on the board....
On a final point, its your responsibilty to protect your loved ones by use of descretion and the US Army Opsec/Persec guidelines, not any internet board, so taking responsibilty for operational starts at home always.... and comes full circle each and every time your loved one(s) comes home...
They say Army strong is a way of life, which is true especially when it comes to personal and operational security.... So stay army strong and stay delligant at all times...
Exo..
p.s. Tacky's name does not suit him, if I was to name him, it would be "straight shooter!"... hoaah!!.. Refreshingly honest and to the point... ;)

Security is very important.. I remember about 2 months ago I was in the pub and drinking with a large crowd from all walks of life, a fraction of them knew me, and two in particular come into the story... One was Diplomatic Corps (Glorified Civil Servant) and the other was a Cop. The civil servant had a mate with him who was just as snivelly as he was.. and he asked me "hey brother, hows your job goin in Credit, I hear you are exArmy!".. and Im like "yea, jobs good and Im exArmy".. then he said.... "hows the Chad Deployment going? when are the boyz leaving"... My whoop *** meter rose to boiling point and my Cop friend went "easy big boy, its not worth it!"... end result = ****y Civil Servant knows better then to ask such dangerously stupid questions, and I dont get arrested for GBH on the worlds only living brain doner!!....

Ok Guys I didn't mean to start a big battle on here, when I was talking about what was going on with my son. You all are right about alot of things, but first and formost is the safety of your boys and girls out there fighting for our freedom. I know that we are losing to many soilders out there and what ever I need to do to help them I will so if that means I don't talk about where they are and when they are going somewhere on here that is fine.
I have learned another leason on here as well that is once a soilder always a soilder. That is not a bad thing, it is a good thing, in some cases. My son who is home for a few days,:D looks better sounds better and has a differnet outlook on life than he ever has. For that I am thankful. Just knowing he is ready, willing and able to go over and let some other guys who need a break come home, to see their families and get ready to do it again until it is over meas alot to me. He told me last night that his job was to help the peolpe ove there live as free as we are. I knw that in his heart he means that.:)
You know when this war started I thought it would be no time and our soilders would be home and it would be over. But now we are in the sixth year, and I am not a soilder but I don't see the end yet. I know we are the home of the free and the brave. We have lost so many men, because they are tried, I am glad that my son is one of the ones who wants to make it happen for them.
Thanks for all of you guys, I look at things alot differnet then I did.

Mtomom,
Thanxs, Jackson's mom is cool. I didn't realise she apologized until after the fact. I said, what I felt I had to say and it's over. It's the simple things that matter and when it comes to the safety of soldier's and our families....
All parents think the same no matter how much we try to keep their minds at ease. That said, It's best to keep the faith and stay focus on everyday life. I know it's very hard to adjust to not having your son around everyday and keeping your mind busy so to not worry about your son every minute of the day must be very hard. But your not alone. Try to understand that the Army has trained professionals to look after your son like their own. And we look out for them. The truth is ...we are family. The people outside the Army is proud of each and everyone of us sure...but the truth is they all don't understand what we go through as members of the Army family. They support us.....
We also need the support of our mission.I know you will be strong for your son so he will not have to worry about you.....and I admire your love for your son. Don't worry mom, your son will never be by himself and I promise we will always be there for him and you.
It's about the soldiers beside us. We look after our own like brothers. We're all different colors.. red white blue black and yellow. We're all different...yet all the same. Simple really..All we have is each other... We are an American soldier and a member of a team. A soldiers creed. And We will honor our country, our Army, my unit, and my fellow Soldiers by living the Army values. A soldiers Code.
God bless and keep the faith.

I have learned another leason on here as well that is once a soilder always a soilder. That is not a bad thing, it is a good thing, in some cases. My son who is home for a few days,:D looks better sounds better and has a differnet outlook on life than he ever has. .
It is amazing how much they change after basic, I don't know how old your son is but mine was a 19 year old kid when he joined, now he is a 20 year old man.
As soon as your son reports to post find out about his unit's FRG (Family Readiness Group) and get on their call list. Since my son deployed, they have kept me informed the whole time and it is news that our son's cannot tell us. I wish you and your soldier the best...

My son graduated XXX and did the week of hometown recruiting, reported to his base on XXXX and deployed XXXX. It was like a whirlwind! He too didn't tell us about his deployment orders at first...but he finally did when we were alone one day. I think he was hesitant because he didn't know how we were going to react as we had originally thought he wouldn't deploy until XXX...

GLad I found this place! You know my girls don't understand why I try to keep up with what is going on over there, They seemd to think that I have just started watching the news and they asked me on easter why are you watching that stuff. I told them I have been watching it and just because my son is going over there I am not going to stop watching it. How else can I stay informed.
I know that he will be fine. I raised my childern to believe all of us are one big family. You should always help the ones beside you and don't ask for something in return. If you don't the good lord will see you through. I know I am trying to give my son freely;) and I know the good lord will take care of him. Don't misunderstand, I know those soilders out there will be the body and soul to see him through. But God is watching where I can't!
Cooking Hooters wings tonight for him. His wife he couldn't go there, but he could eat the wings. All of his buddy shooting pool here at the house, I am sure it is going to get loud.:D Love it whileI can!

I waiver between wanting to know and not wanting to know too much. I had to close down the news sites on my homepage because I was reading stuff that would freak me out, especially if I hadn't had an email in a few days. I don't watch world news that much, mostly because I don't get full control of the remote control until late at night. I just pray every day for his safety and the safety of his fellow soldiers, and breathe a sigh of relief every time I see his name in my incoming email list.
Sounds like you are having fun! There's nothing like having a house full of rowdy kids.

Well I am a little sad this morning, my son and his wife are getting ready to leave. I know that it is a good thing for them, but it going to be a loney around here, without him. This feels different than when he left to go to BCT, or AIT. I think that is because I know he is not going to be back here in 8 weeks.:(
But lets think good about this... No more momma can I borrow 20 I will give it back when I get my check, or can I fill up my truck on the company card, I am broke. I know that good will come from this I am sure.
Good-bye Covington, Hello Fort Hood!:)

Don't worry, he can still borrow money from far away. Poverty crosses state lines. I got a couple of calls before mine deployed asking to spot him before pay day. It's what parents do I guess. Mine did it for us. Just think, you have someplace new to visit!!!! Texas is an OK place. I don't suggest July-September, but fall is nice. Come on over!

I do want to thank you guys for all of your help, in teaching me things that I didn't know. I feel much better knowing that My son is in good hands. I know all will be well and he will be at home in Tx.
I have learned that this site has lots of good information from lots of people. So of which are very understanding and nice, but straight up. Then there are a few that are not so nice. I am thankful for all of those people, because no matter where you go or when, there are good and bad. I learn from all.
Have a great day!:)
