Hi, I am a new army wife and my husband is deployed in Iraq for his second time. He deployed in April and is expected to be gone for 15 months and I was told that we would be getting a considerable jump in pay. He is an 11 year E-4 and we live off of base but so far all we have seen is an extra $190 a month. We are really hurting financially and I am thinking about getting a job to help cover the bills but my husband keeps telling me to wait (I am a stay at home mom) because he keeps telling me that financial will straighten out our pay. Can anyone tell me how long it should take to get the correct pay while deployed and a ballpark of how much more we should be getting. At this point I am really frustrated because we can't pay our bills and I don't know if my husband is correct that we should be getting paid a lot more than we are now. Please help, I live two hours from base and have no idea who to contact with my questions. Thank you in advance :)

If my understanding is correct - deployment pay depends on your spouses MOS as well. My friends (on average) are getting about $600 extra a month. You would talk to the finance people on post. You should be able to contact that office via phone. You can find their number on your posts website. :) Hopefully you would get AT LEAST that... We had one friend getting $1000 extra while over there - his MOS was a little more "dangerous" or whatever... so they received more hazard pay. They will be able to fix what they weren't given you. For example, my friend received back pay for three months. I would say if the money doesn't appear in June to check with the finance people. It can take about 2-3 months to get the new deployment pay...but as I said before they WILL back pay you.
Good luck!

Thank you very much for the information. My husband's unit does something called trailblazing which is basically looking for IED's and detonating them so I would assume that he would be getting hazard duty pay for that. I really appreciate your response, living in financial limbo like this is so stressful because we are so close to sinking. But, I will give it another month to show up and if that doesn't work I will call the financial office on post and talk to them. If I have to get a job I am okay with it, but after having been a stay at home mom for so long getting a part-time job now, while he is deployed and against his wishes really seems like an underhanded move. Don't get me wrong, leaving our daughter would break my heart, but I have to be able to feed her too. So, the info makes me feel a little bit better, thanks again :)

She's not talking about EOD, it is a program EOD started for Combat Engineers to have them lighten the workload on simple IEDs so EOD could respond to more threatening calls faster and not waste time with the little stuff. All they are trained to do is spot the IED and place a charge on it, nothing more.

Thank you all for your replies to my questions. I am not sure what exactly my husband does with the IED's beyond finding them and denotating them. I am glad that we should be getting at least six hundred more a month, that will be such a big help. I know that he is going to try and take care of the pay issues himself but I am also going to be contacting finance to see what I can do on this end. I am so new at this and everything seems overwhelming so just knowing that there are other people out there willing to answer my questions really brightens my day :)
