Only Child

My grandma said that you could not enlist if you were an only child, is this true?
If so, could somebody send me a reply.

When my son went and enlists, I was just like Grand Ma, my only Son was leaving me. However if you Have a Father or Brother that dies when in Active Duty yes you don`t have to and she can Oppose to your Decision , but any otherwise no.
