Which countriy's forces are you talking about, for the UK, the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force would be easy... but army would be a different matter.

The British army being steeped in tradition and age old codes as it is,has many different ranks and ways of showing them. Ranks chage from regiment to regiment although they are trying to standardise this now.

it goes private, lance corporal,corporal,sergeant,colour sergeant,, warrant officer 1 then 2, then i think it is lieutenant 2 then 1, captain, major, then some non action guys who sit and watch the action rather than take place in it
