Jane Fonda says her 1972 visit to a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun site, an incident that brought her the nickname "Hanoi Jane," was a "betrayal" of American forces and of the "country that gave me privilege."

But then she turns around and says that she did not regret meeting with American POWs in North Vietnam or making broadcasts on Radio Hanoi. "Our government was lying to us and men were dying because of it, and I felt I had to do anything that I could to expose the lies and help end the war," she said.

She has a book coming out next week and she is going to be on 60 minutes Sunday.

It's amazing to me that this traitor can have the freedom to walk around, having never been charged with any crime and can make money off the death of so many people killed in Vietnam. I hope and pray that she will always be the most hated person by anyone in the military. She should be in jail for life instead of selling books.

When people sell top secret information to the enemy they go to jail for life. When they actively participate on the side of the enemy like she did, then they get to walk around free?

No veteran should ever forget what she did. And, of course, it's more honorable to make a traitor out of an actual Nam vet and a hero out of someone who dodged going. That's what great sleazy PR men and money can do for some people.

Yeah well, like her or loathe her, she showed guts to do what she did. I applaude her.

she betrayed the hand that fed her. if she had guts she'd gone to russia. she thanked the soviet union for their support that shows how much she knew and probably still knows about politics.

You may not like her, you may not like her politics, that is your right, but she understands far more about the subject than most of her detractors. She was (and is) a citizen of a democracy, one that likes to trumpet its greatness. She decided to use her citizenship in a way she thought best, as was her right. It's a shame that more people don't use what little power they've got in persuance of peace. America is a great country not because of any military might, it is great because it confers wonderful opportunities of dissent on its citizens. Hate her, shun her, despise her, but allow her to be an American, she proved her worthiness to the noble American ideal by using the freedom granted to her.

Yep, 'man', I'm spewing all over.
Do me a favour will you, explain to me how that dangerous cow actually caused loss of life will you? Cheers.
You're a bit confusing old lad. Are you saying she covorted with an enemy, or that she converted an enemy?

'THe B@$CH needs shot and crapped on .........Oh I'm sorry did I just express my right wing opinion.'
Ah, so that's a right-wing opinion is it? Is it a sexual thing or just a violence fantasy with you right-wingers then?

Oi Mercwork & Sroth grow up!! Stop talking rubbish! You're both obviously too stupid to see the irony of your vitriolic position against Jane Fonda. She was EXERCISING THE RIGHT OF FREE SPEECH AND POLITICAL DISSENT that you supposedly wanted to BESTOW on the North Vietnamese!! You can't have it both ways. Either you want a liberal democracy or a fascist dictatorship.

If you want to find the REAL villians of Vietnam, try taking a look at Henry Kissinger and Robert Macnamara, who continued to prosecute an utterly useless and unwinable war which killed 50,000 americans and roughly TWO MILLION vietnamese. Stop whining about people like Jane Fonda and blame the men who sent you off to die like cannon-fodder trying to IMPOSE democracy at the point of a gun. History has proved that it never works, and it never will!! Just take a look at Iraq, another amerikkkan mess!!! What a waste of good money and human lives!!

Amerikkka just never seems to learn its lesson (which is most amusing for the rest of us!).

Fools.

And yesterday, in Wales, Fonda and Macnamara came face to face for the first time. Guess what? Macnamara told Fonda that he was wrong in the war against Vietnam. That's right, Macnamara, as Yankpooper says, Kennedy and Johnsons Vietnam boy, apologised to Fonda. If he now knows better, I sure the reat of us should.

Kurusch, you're absolutely right. I'd forgotten about the Hay-on-Wye festival and the possibility of Fonda & Macnamara meeting. I would have loved to witness the meeting!

Macnamara has been backing away from his original positions (blame?) for awhile now (last year's 'The Fog Of War' film!) and has realised the error of the whole vietnam experience although has yet to accept any blame! Kissinger is another question entirely. He is, most would now agree, a war criminal and should be prosecuted in the Hague. After all, whats good for the goose should be good for the gander!!

Cheers mate!
