Hello.
My husband just recently graduated from basic training in fort sill oklahoma, where he was promoted to a private first class. He is know in fort bliss texas for AIT and will be there for 20weeks I am concerned about 2 things.
First being Ive read that if your in AIT for 20weeks or more that your family can go with. This is extremely important to me because I am 32 weeks pregnant and he would be gone threw the rest of my pregnacy and begining of our daughters life. Is there anyway I could be moved out there to be with him? And if so how would we go about this?
And second concern is how much will he be making now that he is a private first class?
As far as base pay and BAH.

Technically you can move to his AIT location if his AIT is 20 weeks or longer. However, he will not get to live with you until around the 11th or 12th week after he has earned that privilege. I would recommend before moving that he talk to his chain of command about your situation. He should be coordinating with his unit there to move you and he needs to look at his orders to see if it authorizes him to move you so the Army will pay for it.
Your base pay would be $1587.90
To figure out your BAH, go to this link and add your zip code and his rank, you would figure in the w/dependents rate http://perdiem.hqda.pentagon.mil/perdiem/bah.html

As much as you'd like to be with your husband at this time in your pregnancy I'm afraid that you might be a disruptive influence on your husband while he's training. The Army tends to put 20 lbs of crap in a 10 lb bag in most of its schools. Chances are he wouldn't be able to attend the birth anyway.
Personally I think your best bet is to get support from a family member - Mom, sister, cousin, etc. if there are any available. Many times Army housing is in short supply & I'm sure you'd be way down the ladder when housing becomes available. Those getting a permanent change of station at that post are in for the long haul there & would more than likely get priority. You might have to find a place off post to live & there's be no guarantee that he'd be able to get a pass every day.
Take it for granted that he'll be one busy soldier in AIT. At this time his studies are most important.
I know it'll be lonely without him. My wife went through exactly the same thing for 21 years. Army housing was scarce & some was second rate & off post housing was expensive & not even second rate. We were fortunate that I had a buddy that owned a home outside of Bragg & he & his wife welcomed my wife & kids for visits during the summer. They had no children & treated mine like their own.
