I'm in the Canadian Forces (reserves) and my company generally gets the use of old rundown multi-million mile deuces from the 60's-70's! Once and a while I'll get lucky and have the use of a LAVIII.

I own several vehicles, of which are two Dodge Spirits (1992, 1993), Dodge Durango (1999 SLT 5.9L , 2000 R/T 5.9L), Ford Taurus 1999 2V 3.0L V6.

My '99 Durango is outfitted with 35" tires, 6" suspension lift w/ bilstein adjustable shocks, full light/bumber guard, light bar with four 5" offroad lights. towing package, custom twin oil filter system, larger oil pan and transmission pan, and a lower temp thermostat. I'm not sure of the fording ability, but it's over 17" for sure (tested on a creek). Plus many other extras. It's definately a multi-role vehicle, but armoured, it is not!

I take it with me whenever I go on base for field exercises. Most of my fellow officers, and NCO's try to travel with me instead of on the 5 ton 6x6. I can go anywhere in the snow. Never had a problem with it (yet). One of my platoon sergeants wants me to cut out a section in the roof and add a turrent.... I laughed.

My company is lucky to see the use of even one LAVIII. Most of the time they're getting repaired, or upgraded to newer standards and/or technologies. Just like our Sea King helicopters, but not that bad...yet.

The only thing I dislike is getting woken up at 3am (after a hevy snowfall) in the barracks by the duty NCO, asking me if I'm able to pull some cars from the parking lot behind the building, onto the road so they can get to their post. Ha.

electric cables and fonelines.. i think i managed to cut power to several houses nearby..

Well, at least the major allied powers use new equipment. We, Canadians, on the other hand, purchase all the second hand equipment. Still, we do have a list of vehicles/wepaons we use at www.dnd.ca

I'll stick with my durango. At least I can trust it over 60mph.

Hägglunds Vehicle's
SEP (Swedish abbreviation for “Splitterskyddad EnhetsPlattform" ) Modular Armoured Tactical System

http://www.haggve.se/Images/high/SEP_W_and_T_pic1.jpg

Background:
The modular design allows the vehicle to be configured for more than twenty different roles including armoured personnel carrier, command post, ambulance, medical vehicle, anti-tank missile system, anti aircraft missile system, mortar vehicle, reconnaissance, forward observation vehicle, nuclear, biological and chemical warfare decontamination centre, mine clearing and mine scattering, recovery and repair, communication post, radar, electronic warfare.

The electric transmission system (the drive shafts have been replaced by cable and the power from the engines is transferred by cable) gives a number of advantages, including volume efficiency, fuel efficiency, reduced life cycle costs, reduced environmental impact and increased stealth characteristics. The engine is decoupled from the final drives allowing flexibility in the placing of systems in the vehicle and also easily allows two engines to be installed instead of one. Batteries are integrated into the electric drive system, which allow the vehicle to be driven silently for several hours with the engines shut down.

Specifications:

Crew: 2
Number of soldiers, APC role: 12 soldiers

Dimensions:
Length: 5.9m
Height, tracked SEP: 1.9m
Height, wheeled SEP: 2.0m

Performance:
Forward speed, tracked SEP: 85km/h
Forward speed, wheeled SEP: 100km/h
Operational life 30 years
Air transportable: Within C-130 envelope

Ah. welcome to the forum "neighbor" :)

seems pritty nice gear for the nordic terrain.. kinda similar
to the Patria AVM. Lower characteristics tough.

"mortar vehicle"? hm. this probably means the Patria-Hägglunds
AMOS mortar system i'd recon.

fine engineerin. ;)

Thanks ;)

I suppose they mean the AMOS. It is highly plausible that they will develop a AMOS-SEP, as SEP being probably the no1 prio for the company.

The sound quality is really crappy, but it's quite cool anyway.

Intresting with the Remote Weapon Station, same construction as the swedish LEMUR. Too bad that they don't have lika a 20mm automatic cannon installed on it. 0.5 ain't that tough.

the amphibious capability is necessary for FDF. since we have something like 100 000 lakes here..
it gives huge tactical advantage in Finnish terrain. The AMV is also capable to
carry weaponsystems ranging from machineguns to granade machineguns,
30mm turret to AMOS... tough AMOS takes away the ability to "swim".
Patria AMV can also carry armor against 30mm armour piercing APFSDS (SABOT) rounds.

Patria AMV "Swimming"

Stryker is fine vehicle.. the MGS variant is a "slight" overshoot..
again one case of "everything is big in america" :D

hoho.. well.. you dont really know if it works till you test it.
